To find your current firmware do the following:
From the home screen (NOT the menu - just the plain background) use your joystick point to the right > then hit * then <<*<* The whole sequence:
>*<<*<*
this will take you to the service menu, from there select Service info, Software info.
This will show you your current version of the firmware.
As far as the updated firmware, I do seem to get a little bit better reception, but I'm disadvantaged to begin with because I'm using this phone on Cingular (ex AT&T) and their coverage is primarily on the 850mhz band. |

Yeah I want to get firmware to fix this aswell but if you do this the latest software will cripple your mp3s or your memory stick. I wonder how firmware can actually fix this though. |

R1N is the new one. Read the firmware overview thread - http://www.esato.com/board/viewtopic.php?topic=92737 |

r1n035 is the newest to be exact, but yes, you should be cautious of the memory card problems
rebirth. |

Trust me; you update it then you loose your phone! Stay away from it until a new release comes out!

That's more than a little strongly put I'd say. I bet there's many people out there who've upgraded to R1N035 and don't have all the issues of the users who are posting here. I personally haven't had much problem with my phone after upgrading. It does require an occasional reboot but it did need it before the upgrade as well. |
