Sony will be offering a new consumer version of Sony's IVE service, or Instant Video Everywhere featuring free unlimited video and voice service for consumers worldwide.
The IVE service offers a seamless experience that allows users to easily:
Place and receive free, unlimited video and voice calls worldwide with IVE user anytime, anywhere.
Place video and audio calls to cell phones, telephones, and any other traditional video or audio conferencing system.
Communicate face-to-face beyond the home or the office from any broadband enabled location or "hotspot" including coffee shops, hotels, airports, college dorms,and many others.

yes, skype works good. I'm sure ebay wouldn't have paid loads and loads of money to buy them out if it didn't work!
I have skype on my k-jam and did try it via wifi a couple of times

cool, iv got all of that minus a mic, ill get me 1 and try it
so the only way the sony 1 is different is that u can make calls to normal phones for free right?

Well no you still can't make free calls to landlines thats still chargeble.but voice calls to other pc's are free.

Can work ok in dial-up but obviously on broaband it works a lot better.

Dialup should be fine it it lets you choose different codecs since you can always goto something a little lower quality, I would say at a minimum though you're looking at a 128 or 256k broadband connection.
On both of those I was able to use Teamspeak absolutly fine as well as netmeeting and really these programs like skype and the sony one are just newer versions of something thats been about for a long time.
