Hello all,
I have had my Vodafone branded K700i for over a year now and I must say I am very pleased with it. When I first got it, it came with the very first firmware release - needless to say it had its quirks, and eventually I got fed up with it and went to Vodafone to have it updated. That was a few months ago. They updated it to version R2AE033 and I was once again happy - many, many bugfixes.
However, I now find myself growing increasingly tired of the customizations Vodafone has kindly provided me with. No, I do not want to use your shitty Live service and pay €2 for a lousy background. Having to repackage MP3's so as to be able to use them as ringtones is an annoying extra step, and the custom icons Vodafone uses are downright hideous. There are shortcuts to Vodafone things everywhere. In short - this crap has to go!
I have spent many hours on this forum searching for information - it is really a great source of info. However I am still a bit iffy about this, because I really don't want to screw this up (I will have to do with this phone until October next year, when my contract runs out and I will be able to free myself of Vodafone's ridiculous prices and mangled phones). I am however very anxious to get rid of all the Vodafone crap on my otherwise great phone.
It seems I can use either Total Multiserver or the DaVinci Team tool to do the flashing/debranding. Which one is better? I am leaning towards Total Multiserver as it seems like it's more mature (it's been around for a while) and easier to use than the DaVinci program. I checked out both and to be honest DaVinci seemed kind of complicated. I also don't like the idea of having to use hacked up drivers for the DSS sync station (which I have, and plan to use).
What are the odds of this somehow screwing up my entire phone and rendering it useless? I suppose that if that happens, I can just go to the Vodafone store and say "How weird, it just stopped working! Please fix, kthnxbye", but I'd rather not have to do that.
Also, how many credits will this cost me? I suppose one for downloading the firmware/language files and one for flashing? It doesn't really say anywhere...
So I will have to:
* Study manual thoroughly! Already looked it over briefly.
* Buy credits
* Charge phone overnight
* Connect to DSS-25
* Download firmware/language files
* Flash
* Pray to $deity
Anything I'm missing here?
Thanks in advance
