Max BT transfer speed over pc bluetooth dongle and w800 for you? |

Hi;
as topic... which is the maximum speed you reach when transfering files over / to PC?
I ask cause I'm thinking in buyin a dongle... and I'd want to know if it SUCKS for transfering files; since I already have the USB cable and the memory card reader (USB 2.0...), so transfering files over BT would be a total waste (I think). Am I right? I only want to buy it to transfer small files, sync info, use remote and it would be great if transfer speed didn't suck and I could use it to fill the 512 MB of the mem. stick!
Thanks

Mine starts at just over 50 before settling down at about 45,i always leave the phone about a foot away next to the dongle (100 metre range) cus i noticed it can drop to about 5-10 if i move around with it.
If nobody wants it.. put it on eBay. |

nothing beats bluetooth for transferring small files, no cables to worry about is really a bonus. You just right click, send to, select your phone, and say yes on the phone. I use bluetooth to transfer themes, games, wallpapers and to synchronise.
For all other functions I use the cable. |

A couple of question:
1) If you send a file using right click, send to... as Max said... where does it go? Phone / Stick memory? Which folder?
2) If you send more than one file... do you have to confirm for every one of them? I know there are some issues in the latest firmware for this function, but since I never tried it in R1L002... how does it work? Do I have to say "yes, yes, yes..." for each of them?
Thanks

When you send via bluetooth, the phone knows where the file needs to go. If it is a game, the phone will prompt you to install it. If it is a wallpaper it will go to pictures, a theme will go to the theme folder and ringtones go to the sounds folder, etc.
in r1n you can enable bluetooth permissions for a device to allways allow, meaning just send and forget
On R1L and earlier you need to prompt each transfer. When just sending a game or two, or a theme (which is what I use BT for) it's not a hassle.
If I'm still too lazy to put the cable in, and I have only about 10 themes or something like that to transfer (not mp3's and such) then I'll boot up "My Phone Explorer" ( http://members.aon.at/fwechsel/ ) and use it. With My Phone Explorer you can transfer batches of files without being prompted at all by the phone (regardless of firmware). "My Phone Explorer" uses the serial connection via bluetooth (so you set it up with the com port that the bluetooth stack gives your phone) |

a memory stick reader really is an investment with a w800i atm with the data cable corruption.
I just use bluetooth as an easy way of transferring games and themes. |

yes get a memory stick card reader, for as cheap as £10.
mine transfers around 1Mb per second via USB2.0
