Hi!
I just wanted to share with you my experience of missing and poor functionality in my K600i phone. My firmware version is R2K005. Actually, the software in K600i has lost features that I have in my earlier T630 phone, which I think is strange.
- There seems to be no possibility to select if you want to show or hide your number on a per-call-basis (Even T630 had this feature). This is a problem because I work in customer support and don't want the customers to see my number. However, I would like to show it when calling my collegues. It would also be nice if this setting could be made individualy on contacts in the phonebook.
- There is no possibility to turn the message tone on or off in a profile (this was available on T630). This feature would be very usefull for me as I often get spam to my phone and want to be able to turn off SMS tone during the night while still be able to receive phone calls (I have on call duty and that's why this is extra important).
- Small thing: you can not make a shortcut directly to weekly view of the calendar. I like this view and want to be able to push the joystick in a direction to see the current week. On T630 this worked.
- Can not change sound for calendar reminders.
- When writing SMS or similar, and dobule or tripple clicking on a button to get the second or third letter for that button, the phone seems to not notice some of the clicks.
- The phone hangs when discovering available services on bluetooth devices. The cancel button does not work.
- The start-up menu, if enabled, that gives you the oportunity to listen to the media player in "flight mode" (where transmitters are turned off) does not let you listen to radio. It should, really, as a radio received never transmit anything.
- It seems to be impossible to resize a picture, except by adding the picture to a MMS. This would be useful to create background and contact pictures that doesn't take forever to load.
- Delivered SMS messages in the Sent Items folder does not show any information wheter the message is delivered or not when using delivery notifications. This worked on T630.
- E-mail accounts can now be set up with SSL/TLS connections. However, there is STILL no possibility to authenticate against outgoing SMTP servers. This is a requirement IMO on a "mobile e-mail client" without permanent IP address as it is the only way to restrict relaying on the SMTP server.
- The phone is slow! Not as slow as T630 but still slow.
- When the screen saver picture is active (right before the clock shows), pressing star + unlock does not unlock the key lock as the phone doesn't seem to understand what star is in that situation. I have to press star + star + unlock. The first star only puts you back to non-screensaver-but-still-locked-mode. In all other situations the star + unlock works.
I have only had the phone for two days, so I will probably find some more problems but this was my first conclusions.
Regards
Magnus

i have the same firmware version and have to say it's buggy through and throug. 2 days ago i got a call and when i wanted to pick up the phone it switched off, really nice, thank you sony. i wish ericsson and sony had never merged . i guess it's my own fault if i buy made in china, can't expect high quality. nothing against china, it's just their mass production. crappy products. |

Regarding the phone hardware, I believe that I knew what I got so I can't complain on that. I knew that the button was a little hard to press and that the I had to get used to the joystick. What I didn't know was that the software was so buggy.
Found another bug by the way. When browsing the calendar, both in month and week view, saturdays and sundays aren't highlighted correctly. So it's not easy to know which day is selected durirng the weekends.
Also, the camera is no good at all. It's a lot of pixels in there but it still gives the same bad quality pictures as in my old T630.
Anyone know of any upcoming firmware to patch this thing? Is it the same software that is in other phones, for example K750?

Magnus

Some newly discovered problems:
- When in a video conversation, there is no possibility to go to the main menu to read SMS for example. The choice "main menu" that is present during a normal call is just not there...
- You know those magnets that you can put in your car to hold phone in place (requires a magnetic plate on the backside of the phone)? When I put my phone on that magnet, the camera starts!!! I guess this is because the lens cover that you have to turn to start the camera is working with magnetic to tell the software if it is open or not... Someone didn't think...
Do you know where I can report these problems so that SE can get the opportunity to fix them?
