is it possible?
frankly i am just not happy with the camera software on the w550 and i believe that since the w550 is labeled as a walkman/music player first they just didnt care much for the software. i mean its a 1.3mp camera and it should behave as such. why is it other cameras can do better? (yes i am aware the w800 has a 2mp cam)
anyways. is it possible? if so whats the best path? the w550 se support site does not at the moment include a software update link so i am going to the w800 link. |

I think all the walkman branded phones are labelled as music phones first, thats a pretty obvious statement.
I can guarantee, without having tried it myself, that you will definately end up with a nice shiny brick if you attempt this!
I dont know what your expectations are of the cam in W550, 1.3mpx is pretty old now, although a year ago everyone was WOWing about it when the V/Z800 came out, but cmon that was a year ago, obviously techonology has advanced since then. The cam is the same as the one in the Z800, and lots of people have taken pretty good pics with it on this forum... |

Then do try it, and you will get the proof 
But before doing so, let me tell you that the chanses of getting the W800 firmware working on the W550 is close to none.
And even if you could flash W800 firmware onto the W550 it would not change the cameraquality. It still has the same cameramodule, which is the limiting factor, firmware doesnt change that and firmware does not have that big impact on cameraquality. The firmware of W550 is allready optimised as much as possible for the cameramodule in W500. The firmware in W800 is optimised for the cameramodule in W800 which is entirely different, and wouldent fit the cameramodule in W550.
So even if you could flash the W800 firmware onto the W550 and make the phone function, the cameraquality would at best be poorer, if the camera would even work at all.

After reading twocows intentions all i can do is:
Do you really think that SEUS will flash your W500i with W800i?
People, SEUS is ONE system. Doens't matter if you get to it using the W800i support page or the P910i support page, Doens't matter if you get to it using chinese support pages or the Nicarágua support pages. It will get your phone's files by checking the IMEI and the CDA.
1st of all: IMPOSSIBLE!!
2nd of all: NOT DOABLE!
3rd of all: W550i cam is 1.3MP and W800i's is 2MP. 
4th of all: You won't get past square one.
Bottom line: Forget it.

i understand why he wants to improve the W550i cam quality so bad.. coz i do so!
the cam is SO BAD!
it's out of any 1,3Mpix CMOS standard.. K600i shoots MUCH BETTER.
EVEN K700i shoots much better.. the colors in the pics by K700i are much popped-up, much more natural, and have much more contrast..
the W500i pics is so BROWNISH! and.. GREYISH!.. even fot outdoor shots.. and YOU ABSOLUTELY CAN SHOOT NOTHING INDOOR coz it sufferably is so bad....

then the cameramodule they used in this is simply just a poor module.
Nothing can be done about that except getting a phone with a better cam.
