Yep, sold a phone awhile ago, paid by Paypal, sent off phone, signed for..... they paid ebay with a stolen credit card.

They did'nt pay me, I lost P900 / £280 . NEVER SELL ANYTHING WITH PAYPAL NOW.

Sorry about the caps....bloody laptop !!!!

Loads of stories of paypal doing this. They even take their time transferring your cash into your bank account, took 7 days last time I used it.And, even if after that, if they find out the payer paid with stolen card, they then take the money from your bank account !!!!

I don't get it. How can it be the sellers fault that the buyer tries to fool Paypal?

its not paypals fault, but they dont do anything to try to help you get your money back or anything, they dont care about the customer... (as far as i know... i never dealt with it...)

edit: idk anyone else who has had problems personally...

well.. since they charge for beeing the middlehand in transfering the money it should be their responability to see if the card is legit. Right?

Oh well, i'll see what happens.

To make things worse, the E-mail adress they want me to reply to is just bouncing.

Paypal have no responsibility at all, according to them, they don't care......but they'll still take their fees. I only ever buy stuff now with paypal ,cash or when cheques clear is all I now do.
How much was it for ??

Let me just say it was a substantial amount.

Let's not go deeper into this, i've PM'd the buyer to see if he has got an explanation.
Hopefully there's some simple explanation to all this.

I have not had that...but I have recently had a buyer whom bought an item...and slightly unhappy...placed a dispute against me rather than discussing the issue...and paypal dipped in and took the cost of the item...and I believe charged me again for the priveledge..... Does leave bitter taste in the mouth...

Hold on a second here mate, they don't take it direct from your bank account... they CAN'T.

This has happened to me 4 times before, and luckily i never sent the phone out each time (I always waited 3 days before sending the phone incase this happened). I had however started a transfer for the money to my banks account.

But as the fees wer "held" by PAYPAL Balance went into -£400 (Price of item sold) but they took nothing from my bank, as they can't do this. And the the transfer I started continued fine, and i recieved the £400 into my bank. My paypal DID however stay in minus.

I just relisted the item and sold it, recieved another £400, which then took the Debt out of my paypal account, and took care of the big MINUS, so my paypal balance went back to £0.

but that means you got nothing for your phone.

If you had -400 because, it meant the buyer wasn't legit. So you didn't send him the phone.

So now you are -400.

You really sell it this time for 400, your account goes to 0, but you send the phone out to the guy.

That means you ended up with 400 pounds from someone's card that was stolen?

He paid me £400 from a stolen card... that went to my bank. That card was then refunded It's £400 from my paypal:

So my bank balance = +£400
Paypal = -£400

I then resell the phone for £400, which goes to my paypal and cancels my paypal debt leaving me with:

Bank Blance: +£400
Paypal Balance: £0

So i did end up selling the phone for £400,

...Hope that clears things up.
