Damaged K750 - Vodafone warranty |

Hi,
This may not be the most appropriate place for this topic but I couldn't see anywhere better to put it - if anyone wants to move it, that's fine.
I've had my K750i for a few months and in that time the joystick has become pretty much unusable (an issue I also had with the K700, and I understand a pretty common problem), and recently the charging connection has become a bit dodgy (on the phone itself, not the charger).
I took it to Vodafone (UK), who told me to take it to CPW who may be able to repair it instore - they couldn't, so I brought it back to Vodafone. It's now gone off for repair, but the guy in the store said the phone had "heavy damage" - i.e. the casing is pretty scratched and has been dropped - and that it may well not be covered under warranty.
Of course, fingers crossed it will be covered - if not, I will have to use my insurance which means paying £25 excess - I wouldn't mind if I had damaged the phone, but both of these issues (or at least, definately the joystick one) have very little to do with how damaged the phone is externally - SE joysticks always do this from what I've heard.
So basically what I am asking is - has anyone been in a similar situation? What was the outcome? And if they say that they won't cover it under warranty, is there anything I can do other than accept it - would it be worth pointing out how common the joystick fault is, etc, or will it fall on deaf ears? And also, would it be significantly cheaper (than £25) to just get someone to replace the joystick?
Thanks,
Tom
Note: I read the thread http://www.esato.com/board/viewtopic.php?topic=105961 about joystick issues being related to the R1N firmware but I'm _pretty_ sure mine was R1L - I don't have the phone to check but the latest update wasn't available on SEUS last time I checked. So I think its actually a faulty joystick, not software - if that makes any difference!

I had an O2 contract T610i which I gave to O2 to repair the joystick. It came back fixed but the battery and back cover went missing,a deep cut/scratch across the keypad which stopped lighting up.Worst of all the LCD was loose with dust and a big greasy cheeseburger thumbprint, very professional eh?When they say go to CPW they mean is buy something or F**K OFF.

this is unfortunatley a prob we get all the time... but take this as what will happen....
Wen the engineer opens the fone if he deems the fault o of bin caused by customer damage they wont repair it but will send it back outside warranty... If its not deemed customer damage they will fix it free under the warranty...
I've seen a number of phones goin away for repair with heavily scratched cases and come back fixed under warranty.. so sick back and stop worryin!!!

I bought a K700i around easter.I used the handsfree for 3 weeks before I noticed the earpiece speaker was not working. The vendor was not interested.I bought my K750i 3 weeks later and the K700i was just left lying around. Last month I contacted SE through their site and they gave me an address to send the phone. I did not hear anything for 2 or 3 weeks and got a bit worried but then it came back fixed.I did not send the backplate because of what happened to my T610i at O2 but they sent me another. They done a fantastic job and a exellent service which is extremely rare in the UK in my experience.@tdmusic SE will fix the joystick for you if Vodaphone is not interested, just go on the SE site and ask themin support. They should give you a better answer. My K750i joystick started going funny after 2 months and is now more temperamental/unresponsive now.

Cheers m100, it hadn't occured to me that SE would service it themselves! I'll wait and see what Voda say anyway
Thanks |

if your on Voda in the UK, just do what i do. Dial 191 from your handset, speak to customer services. Say that yours is broken under warranty, and if its under 6 months ask for a brand new handset, or you'll get a refurbished one. Also ask for the handset to be sent next day delivery to your place of work.
a delivery van will arive next day, and deliver your new phone, they will also take away your old faulty handset too.
I have had this service now each of the 4 times a handset had been faulty. |

they wont send you a new one i can assure you! my k750i broke after 3 weeks and they wanted to palm me off with a refurb, i argued with the supervisor for nearly 20 mins and they wouldnt budge,i ended up sending it to SE direct and the fixed it and posted it back to me.
vodafone customer service is diabolical, ive had nothing but problems since they took over singlepoint who were very helpful and sorted any problems ive had, the first thing ill be doing when my contract runs out is switch networks. |

And I can assure you they can. It all depends on how anal the service agent or supervisor you get is. My last s700i was replaced for a brand new handset.
If you do get a refurb, ensure its had new plastics and has been sanitised. Another recent refurb that was delivered included somebody elses pocket lint in the keyboard and a gacked up microphone. I was not best impressed.
If you get what you feel is unhelpful (and usually bordering on insulting) advice, complain. Why give up just because an over-zealous Supervisor says no? Write a long, accurate, letter of complaint to the director of customer services. You will get a call from customer relations pdq. After all, your the customer, and they rely on your repeat business.
If we all can't be arsed to complain, they get the impression what their doing is acceptable, and they'll get away with even worse. If we all complain, then they'll get the idea, hopefully.
mini-rant over.

Got a text this morning saying it's back unrepaired as the damage wasn't covered under warranty. I'll go down to the shop in a bit and find out more but looks like it might be time to try sending to SE (depending on what they say was up with it, if it's something blatantly not under warranty I'll have to use the insurance)... |
