Warning: Alarm embarrasment |

Yesterday I saw a movie, and before I went in I put my K750i on silent. About half-hour into the film the phone sounded an alarm, so I turned it off. A bit later the alarm sounded again, so I popped the battery out.
After the movie I put my phone back together and tried to understand what had happened, and I think its time had changed by 12 hours, so it thought it was 7am when it was 7pm, and it was my morning alarm that had sounded. This was probably associated with the time-saving time change.
Apart from being very embarrassing this emphasises that when the phone is put on silent it does NOT silence all alarms.
Now I may stop using my phone as an alarm, and just use my PDA for that, as I can unconconditionally silence the PDA when I need to. |

Thats a feature. Turning your phone off at night should still wake you up in the morning |

You mean other than SE phones.
T39, K700 had it.
I think that even T28 had it |

An alarm that works when the phone is off - thats good - an alarm that goes off when you specifically put it into silent mode?
That's counter-intuitive, not what the average person would expect (nor want).

Sorry, but I disagree. If you don't want the alarm on then simply turn it off. What good is a silent alarm! Having the opportunity to not hear people texting and calling you at stupid hours of the morning but letting your phone wake you up is a very handy feature and having your phone switched off doesn't allow you to see which bugger has called you.

I fully agree with goldenface
The word ALARM specifically means something very important you do not want to miss, think burglaralarm, firealarm, etc.
Setting an alarm for any reason should of course sound in any case, no matter if phone is on silent or turned off. Its different from reminders you set in calendar which does not go off in silent mode.
The risk of the morning wake up alarm sounding off while in the movie because of time saving changes is pretty low - maximum 2 times a year.
Seems to me as a rather small risk compared to the benefits of the alarm acting as an alarm should.
If one absolutely have to goto the movies at the time when time saving changes, and you want to be absolutely sure that the alarm does not go off, then turn off the alarm. Cant be that many times in a lifetime when this exact circumstance occurs.
I vote for S//E to keep this very nice feature of alarms

If you want an alarm to go off only when the phone is on, set the calendar to only go off when phone is on, and then in outlook create a recurrent wake up alarm, and sync with the phone.
Personally I love the feature of always play alarm! |
