I know Cingular has "alterate line service," but don't know about T-mobile. Their website doesn't say anything about it. Ask an experienced sales rep at a store. Alot of obscure features like ALS go unknown by newer reps and cust serv reps. |

oh, alright...if not I hope that ALS comes here when Cingular Chicago goes GSM in 6 or so months |

Is an R520 an non-sim phone? If so, it may be possible to program more then 1 # into it. When I worked for an analog carrier, most of the phones were at least dual nam (2 numbers). Some could take 6. But, if you need both numbers available at all times, won't work. |

Yeah, I am a psychologist with one phone for personal use and one for clients to call. So, I do need both simultaneously. I was investigaitng and Cingular offers ALS in your market, but not in California. I sure hope that it comes when GSM comes here...oh yeah, R520 is SIM based...it was the first phone with Bluetooth. Its a good one, especially with the special IAT-10 antena

thanx, that was interesting..yet I really would like two numbers on one sim, so that I could always use both numbers...When you have two SIM's you have to switch and that's no good. Thankx though...its really more of a provider issue than an Ericsson issue

it is a good thought. Hey, I have a few questions for you about R380...does it support two voice lines? I didn't see that feature in the manual I downloaded. Also, what are your thoughts about the R380? |

Well I think that dual numbers are possible, but that is amatter of programming and as far as I know there are no such prog. on the phone, but it could exist as an upgrade, maybe someone else knows. I will check with my sp. And get back to you. There is 4 major flaws with 380 1. No GPRS 2. Memory not enough. 3. No ems. Except when on internet 4. It takes two hands operating. Other than that I love it. :-]

correction : orange are not the only uk network to 'alternative line service' 'duo' or whatever u guys r calling it !!
all uk networks have 2 lines for each sim (the only exception at present is Virgin - but thats gonna chnage in 3months) Line 1 and Line 2, the traditional use for having 2 lines is one for voice and the 2nd for fax/data : basically u can receive fax etc straight 2 ur phone etc etc on line 2 !!
most gsm networks should support line 1 and line 2 cos generally the capability is within the network infrastructure

mmmmmm ShibbyLicious, that don't sound quite right - Orange - as I'm aware are the ONLY UK operator to have seperate voice line 1 & line 2 numbers - line 2 does NOT support such features as text, (receive only) wap, fax/data & conference calling - nor does it work abroad - all calls have to diverted to line 1 - so u aint quite right - a fax/data line is another line in theory - but if it was 'billed' as a seperate line then on Orange u could have 3 lines - yes a fax/data line has its own nubmber etc - but u can have additional products with their own number which share the line 1 - I have a sepearte fax number which is on my line 1 & can be called seperatly (just get ansafone though) then I have a data line with a seperate number aswell - plus a 'line 2' - so thats 4 in total. |
