no you don't have to be a student anyone can order.
not sure about it being locked a few people have said they are but i am on o2 so i cannot test it as my mum is also on o2.

strange  definitly the one I got for my daughter was locked and that was the first thing I checked, both in the service menu and by putting a non o2 sim card in

masseur is it possible to check without inserting a different simcard as i only have o2 sims.
if so i will check to see if mine is locked. seems abit random to lock some and not others.

yes, just go into the service menu using the old >*<<*<* then click service info and then click sim lock
if any padlock is closed then you have a locked one. Normally its the first one which is for the network

thanks, well mine is locked too, the first padlock under network is closed.
the rest are open.

Sorry mine was locked to just assumed it wasnt as all the others i got from o2 have been unlocked.

so that settles it then they sre all locked, i know o2 never used to, looks like the lock all phones now.
