The K750 has a bug which means that if the "magic word" voice dialing is active, the mute line for the radio is permanently held active. Disable the magic word dialing and the radio mute works when making calls.

Reporting this to Sony Ericsson, the response back was:

".. when the Magic Word feature is activated the car radio will be muted. This is so that the handset will not be activated unwanted, if for example it picks up a particular phrase that is similar to the Magic Word and makes an outgoing call".

So what they are saying is that the magic word may be activated (and 'phone armed to dial) by a car radio so is effectively useless in a typical car. Probably should not have converstaions with passengers either in that case?!

The voice activated dialling is a good and safety conscious feature which SE have decreed unusable in a car - the k750 literature promotes the "Magic Word" dialling as being particularly suitable for car use. With this bug (or bizarre feature decision by SE) the choices seem to be:
- Don't use magic word - need to fumble for 'phone to make a call.
- Disconnect radio mute - need to fumble for radio on/off to make OR receive a call.
- Drive in silent isolation.

Has anyone tried a W800 (or other Fastport phone) with an HCA-60 and seen the same?

If you see this as a problem, may I suggest you report it to SE in the hope that enough complaints may encourage a firmware change to fix this bug?

Looks like we're stuck with this - protesting to SE only brings the corporate "brick wall" response of "that's how it is, it can not be altered". So until complaints (customer feedback) reach the level that the bug/feature is addressed in a new firmware, a driver safety feature has been lost.

I have also tried updating the k750 to W800 code R1N035 and got the same error so no hope there.

Cheers

Has this bug been fixed yet?

It actually does this on my k700i so if someone has found a way to stop the radio muting all the time magic word is on, it might work on my k700i too.

Well, apparently SE says it's not a bug but a feature. So there's nothing to fix according to them

Complete losers! Why change something that worked perfectly well on previous older models. I used to use it all the time on my T630

Think some IT boffins should get heads together and fix this

Why not just activate voice dialing by pressing a button on your phone?
Or use speeddial? It's not hard, you operate your car stereo that way.

Magic word is not essential for handsfree use.

I would respectfully suggest that if you believe that if you are unhappy with the loss of a feature from the T-630 / HCA-20 setup being classed as a "feature" from SE, please contact them and add your vote to those of use who see it as a bug.

If enough customers complain then SE may take notice. There is no mention of this new "feature" - i.e. no magic word dialling when kit is connected to radio - in either the 'phone or the car kit manual. Every one has "bugs" in software - that's OK, but no manufacturer wants to admit them but over time, the top X bugs of their bug lists get fixed. It would be good if enough of us customers pushed this bug to a high enough position in the bug list to get addressed next release.

So, complain to SE - they can only ignore you at worst. At best, they may fix it!

I agree that pressing the 'phone button to initiate a call is not the hardest thing in the world but I found the old voice activation much easier and safer - both hands on the wheel and that. I believe it is a sensible safety feature which is why I spent the money to get the SE kit (as the old HCA-20 won't work with K750i) rather than get a cheaper generic kit (Parrot?) with more features.

Cheers
