Okay, I know I've messed up my phone already with the 'update' service, but I'm a glutton for punishment, and I want to keep trying.

I've recently reinstalled Windows, and so I'm having to install everything again, Sony-wise. Here's what I did:

1. Installed the drivers from the CD.
2. Installed PC Suite 1.7.10
3. Installed Java 1.5.0.04
4. Installed the update service drivers
5. Installed the flash drivers (ran the setup.exe). These installed to "C:\Program Files\Sony Ericsson\Sony Ericsson W800".

Now, when I hold 'c' and connect the phone to the cable (the cable is connected to the PC), I get the 'Install New Drivers' wizard. I've tried searching the CD, the folder labelled "C:\Program Files\Sony Ericsson\Sony Ericsson W800", and the priginal folder where I downloaded the flash drivers, but to no avail - installation fails every time. Meanwhile, the phone turns on, and the PC opens up Explorer, showing the contents of the memory stick.

Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong? It seems these flash drivers aren't installing properly. Obviously, I can't use the update service yet, because when it comes to the point where I switch off, hold 'c' and reconnect, the phone will try to reinstall itself again, and the update won't proceed.

I'm pretty sure I did it this way before, and things went okay, although I realise that makes no sense at all, so I probably am being an idiot.

Can anyone help me out by pointing me in the right direction of a simple, step-by-step guide to installing these drivers and getting everything ready for the update?

TIA,

well wat i did, was first install all the drivers from the cd and the software on the cd. syncstation etcetc.

after that i turned off my phone, held the c pressed and then connected it to the pc. it should now say new hardware found.
and then you should use those drivers in the zip file, just extract them somewhere beforehand and when the installation wizard asks. just say you want to manuallay install the drivers, and say 'have disk' that should work

I did try the 'have disk' option, and I told it to look inside the folder that resulted from unzipping the flash drivers, but it still failed.

Weird, huh?

Can anyone else help with this? This is seriously driving me mad. No matter what I do, whenever I turn my phone off, hold down 'c' and reconnect, the phone turns on and Explorer opens. I can't for the life of me, install the drivers. I have absolutely NO way of using the update service - all I can do is download the files; I can't actually try loading them on the phone.

Well, I finally got them to install, by getting the flash drivers from another source. The ones that weren't working were from the Sonyericsson site. I downloaded more form the Davinciteam site, and those worked fine.

Update still won't work though.
