the best 3g operator is "3". the hutchinson co is from hong kong, next to it its present in several european countries. of course other operators offer umts system aswell, but most of them are using "3" networks and system. actually, thats the way its working in austria

You can see the 3G launches at e.g. the GSM Association website:

Don't know when it will be coming to India but it shouldn't be too far off... In South Africa it happened in less than one year, from licencing to launch. Unlike in Europe South African networks didn't have to pay a small fortune for their licences...it was a flat fee.

belgium has got 1 3G network for now. but it only covers 30% of the country. its by proximus and you can only use vodafone handsets on it. its been lauched for like 1month and it still doesn't work like it should. its not that fast, watching TV doesn't always work. and ofcourse very limited area's where you can use it.
i had it for 2weeks and was very unhappy with it.
EDGE will be lauched by the other 2 operators this year.
With Ericsson and Nokia gone: we must keep their spirits alive and buy JOLLA or YOTA

We've now got quite a few 3G networks in the UK - 3, Vodafone, Orange, and O2 and T-Mobile are launching their services very soon. In fact, have T-Mob launched theirs yet?

I personally at the moment see them as been a bit overpriced (perhaps due to that ridiculous auction they had to do), overhyped and are still building their coverage up.

I might switch in a year or two once companies like 3 stop 'ringfencing' and allow you to visit 3rd party sites (like Esato) and their data charges drop more.
