HCB-700 + K750i |

Just was at a SE Service Center. They confirmed the following: There is a firmware issue on the K750i which prevents it from using the name-dial function on the HCB-700. Not sure if the latest firmware update at SE site will fix. But don't tear out your hair if you can't get it to work, it's a firmware issue.
Btw - the guys at SE 'knew nothing' as usual.
Hope this is helpful. |

This would make you they only person I've heard of who has a HCB-700.
Could you please post any comments on it?
Whats the display like? How stable is the B/T connection?
Do all the features work with any other B/T phones you have access to? How much did it cost?
I would appreciate any info...

This would make you the only person I've heard of who has a HCB-700. Cool
Could you please post any comments on it?
Sure.
Whats the display like?
Excellent. It has about 256 colors (not sure about the official total colors, but it's more then enough) to match your car-interior color. Neat. The letters are big, and very well readable. When you switch on, it connects to the last connected phone (or other paired phone if last connected is not in range), and once BT up it says Network OK. Stays that way until you use it or get call.
How stable is the B/T connection?
Extremely well. I had a HCB-30 before, that kind of s#cked. It would not always connect and sometimes bug on me. This one takes three seconds to find my (hidden) P910i or my wifes K750i.
Once paired (obviously you only pair once), you can switch with one click from one phone to the other. Even when both in the car, you just select the phone you want to use to dial with. Very, very well implemented. No BT issues at all sofar (using it for over a week now).
Do all the features work with any other B/T phones you have access to?
No. The phonebook feature (browsing the phone-phonebook) does not work on the P910 (which is stated in the compatibility list, so I knew that). But it works excellent on the K750. Push phonebook button, and you browse through the phonebook on the K750. Pick the right name, then the right number and call. Easy as hell, and works like a charm.
How much did it cost? I paid €189 online.
I would appreciate any info...
Hope this gives you a good impression. I have not yet seen such a cool kit - and it works like a charm. A friend saw it, and immediately ditched his nokia kit and installed this one as well.
An incomming call gives you name and number from your phones-phonebook (also on the P910i) on display.
Number dial (say the actual phone number) works really (!) well, voice recognition is perfect. Voicedial works fine on P910, but as said there seem to be issues with the K750 voicedial. Not tried yet.
Installation is simple, if you like to do that stuff yourself.
Hope of use. I love it.
Ciao,
nuke

Mint! just replaced my HCB-300 with HCB-700, kit is mega! voice-digit dialling picks up the spoken phone numbers digits really well, you can speak the digits at a decent pace and it has no trouble correctly interpreting them.
Use the kit with 2 phones, easily hops between either. each phone can have it's own colour too, although you also get the active phone's name in the display.
And the best bit? when you sync the phonebook into the kit, you can do it for each phone and it must store them separately, so when you hop between phones, the relevant phonebook is the one you access - oh, and THAT phone's call-list too (dialled, received etc)!! more than one number for a contact throws up the usual icon beside each number within that contact.
Absolute class!, although as already mentioned, f/w issue on K750i means no voice name-dial - digit dialling fine, and both digit and name dial on T630 fine.

@ davidb67,
Try to update the K750i on SE Update Service - that might fix issue with name-dial.
And I agree with you - extreme cool hardware |

Not sure what you're asking, but I'll try to answer:
I use a carkit for my phone so I can call, be called and talk while I'm driving. Additionally, in my country it's illegal to hold a mobile phone in your car while driving - so you 'need' a carkit.
Using the 750 on speakerphone while driving does not sound like a good idea to me. |

Thanks Nuke, but I'm on Orange in UK and my f/w is R1L - don't think website will allow update beyond that at the mo - besides, tried it about 8 weeks ago with previous K750i R1C i think, and couldn't get the update service to run.
It has always amazed me with a country as litigious as the US, that phone use is permitted whilst driving - checkout ANY movie/TV show from 80's & 90's!!
Heck, with lawsuits on top of lawsuits, it's a wonder DRIVING is allowed!! |

Actually, now you mention it - it IS funny.
You can't have sex under 18 or grab a beer in a bar, but you can drive a 200 horsepower sportscar and call your friend on your mobile whilst doing it.
Ahh well. I DO love the US, so please don't take offense..... |

I have been looking at getting one of these kits for a while now, and here in the UK, they can be had for about £120 off ebay. I would be using both the K750i, and the K600i with the kit, so do you know of any issues with the K600i, or is it just the same with the name dialling problem.
Thanks

Volvoman, got mine for £102 plus £5 p+p.
kit is superb, although I'd have liked the display housing to be smaller as it'd have given me more options location-wise. It's the footprint of a credit card, but the actual display segment is only 50% of that - i've taken it apart but it's chokka-full inside there!
"commander unit" is easy to use but feels a bit slack & flimsy, so we'll have to see how it stands up.
Call quality is superb - both ends.
Oh, and name dialling is now working on my K750 WITHOUT f/w upgrade.
Gonna take some pics on the weekend and get them posted up. |
