if bought today then it should have had one of the latest firmwares on it, so should have been no reason to update unless you were feeling extremely bored!
But my advice would to be'
1. Take it back to where you bought it and claim under their guarentee
2. Go to a service centre and let them try to fix it
3. Admit you were foolish then moan about your phone not swithing on
Hope you get it sorted dude and please post progress here
p.s. welcome to Esato, hope your query gets sorted asap

the sony update says turn off the phone for 20 seconds hold the c key down and plug the usb cable in when tring to restore the phone, i have taken it to a local shop today but i dont think they will be able to do it as if the phone is dead how the hell can a PC see it, SOny Ericsson said they might be able to fix it but i have to send it away what a nightmare and a waste of money |

Take it to a sony ericsson servicecentre, only 20 minuts for an update.

Well, your phone is not dead. It simply is unusable for there is no consistent software on it.
So it wont turn on, it wont boot and most importantly it wont be detected by a computer.
However a service centre can force a firmware update onto a phone. There shouldnt be any problem.
So it might get resurrected.

A local shop in my town which unlocks and repairs mobils he said he used to work for Nokia and has now set up on his own, only cost me £20. he also said he would update my firmware when new ones come out for £5 bargain |

How is £5 a bargain when you can do it yourself for free?! Also you could have had it done free under warranty easily. What occurred was a simple mishap. Perhaps there was a USB connection problem during flashing (remove all other USB devices before flashing). Or another random problem. Working with mobile phones isn't difficult. Hence why you'll always see shops offering unlocks etc etc everywhere. |

Well its a bargain to me comparing i had no phone, i will not use the sony site to flash my phone again regardless, it didnt say on their site when you do the flash to remove all other USB just to shutdown all other software which i did, the reason i didnt use the warrenty was i need my phone dailey for my work they said i would have to send it away and it could take upto 3 weeks which i wasnt happy about, so all in all it was a bargain as the shop had it for 2 hours |

Thats awesome. I'm glad I have a Service Centre nearby, and a mobile 'hospital' even closer. No need for me to send away my phone or anything.. and I had my phone successfully upgraded to R1N with no probs so far. :] |
