Just a thought: would storing frequently used files (such as phonebook pictures) in the phone memory - not the memory stick - increase battery life? My guess is that it should, given that the stick itself consumes power.

If it does the difference would be marginal as the power consumption of a flash disk is very small. I don't think you'd see a huge difference tbh.
