After filming about 45 minutes with my K700i the phone gave a beep and the filming stopped. Out of memory.

Went to the file manager in the phone.
Instead of the video icon it showed a blue
rotated box - unknown file icon.

Transferred the 26 MB big 3gp-file to the PC.

- Quicktime 7 gives error -2048, not a movie format.
- RealPlayer gives corrupt data.
- Stein-converter ignores the file.
- Xilisoft/imTOO converter says the file is 00:00 long.
- 3gpToRawAvi crashes with "cannot find command file" (transl.)

Opening the file and a correct 3gp file in hex editor. Seems like the header of the file is OK, but the
ending is missing.

Is there a way to repair my 3GP movie, like VirtualDub can do with damaged AVI:s?

Hard to do a re-shot of this one...

The longest movie I've ever made and a nice documentary of how much renovation my house need, and that's much. Thanks to SE I can't see the movie.

Tried to read the 3GP standard to understand the file format, and maybe then I could create an application that re-indexed the file.

But I don't really understand the specifications from www.3gpp.org ...

Is it possible to graft the ending from a 3gp file that does work onto your file, and hence removing the corrupted bit?

I tried that, maybe I didn't copy so much as I should, or I copied too much.

It would help if I could see the structure of the 3GP-file.

To confirm that this is an error I re-did it. I left the camera on and let the phone film the table.

About 45 minutes away the phone gave a beep and the result was the same. A dot as the icon:

(Swedish... Kam.videoklipp=Camera videoclip, Skicka=Send, Mer=More)

BUT news: The file is 7.9 MB, and the phone is NOT filled up.

This is a time based error. After about 45 minutes of filming, the filming stops and the file has a truncated ending.

Bug or what?

I also noticed 3gp files are very small. A 1 sec long 3gp is only 4-5 kB. This means it's not soo much information to wade through when trying to understand the file standard...

Are there some kind of explanation of the structure in the 3GP somewhere, so I could try to build the re-index application anyway?

Time flies but I still want to see my 5 year old movie.

Tried AviDemux, it fails to open the file.
Tried MediaInfo, it says the info below.

Format : MPEG-4
Format_Profile : 3GPP Media Release 5
CodecID : 3gp5
File size : 26,0 MiB

Tried SUPER©, it runs through the file to the end but ends with "ERROR!", it also tells me it's a 3GP file. Info from it below:

Tried All Media Fixer, it made a perfect copy of the file without fixing it.

Do you want to repair you corrupted 3GP videos? 3GP file format is very sensitive in nature and highly prone to corruption thus it can get corrupted due to any possible reason. But there is no need to worry because 3GP Video Recovery Software is able to repair and recover any corrupted, broken, or deleted 3GP files instantly.

Yes I want to repair my corrupted video.

That link led me to Stellar Photo Recovery, which seems to recover files from disks.

I cannot select the file, only a drive in this program.

I have the file, it is broken somewhere inside, not lost on a drive. But good try.

Have you tried using a player like VLC ???

Available here and totally free. http://www.videolan.org/vlc/index.html

It's pretty good at playing incomplete files, maybe worth a try.

This may work, not used it myself. http://mp4repair.org/pwt6/preview.html

Yes I have tried VLC, tried it again now:

mp4 error: MP4 plugin discarded (no moov, foov, moof box)
avcodec error: Could not open test.3gp: Specified event object handle is invalid

I could try mp4repair, but the contents is a bit private - I'm running around and whine about my house... so don't want to risk publish it.

I'm looking for a "video frame sniffer" or something... that could walk the file byte by byte and scan for mpeg-frames(?) even if the beginning and the end are corrupted.

I don't know for sure whether this would even work but have you attempted to open it in a recent version of Photoshop? I don't know if you can even open a 3gp in it, but all I know is that I have created videos frame by frame in Photoshop before. Each layer in Photoshop is a single frame of the video so you can scroll through the video frame by frame.

EDIT: Oh and I just had a thought that maybe you could open it in Flash too. Similar to my explanation of Photoshop.
