Definitely Blackberry influence there. I guess they must have deemed it necessary to sacrifice screen size and the previous "flimsy" qwerty for the on-the-body qwerty. This will definitely feel sturdier.

david... Nokia isn't even a consideration... I've seen their best... not even close to the P910 (they may come close to the P900... but nothing worth good money) so that's not an issue.
I think most of us are disappointed with the incremental improvements SE has made... personally, I'm disappointed with the backwards move they made with the thumb board. There was nothing wrong with the P910 thumb board. It was thin, removeable, and easily repaired/replaced. The only flaw it had was the lack of a backlight, which could've easily been addressed had they tapped the numeric keypad lights.
Moving the thumb board to the main body doesn't make it much easier to type with, at the same time, you sacrifice screen size (physical), ease of service for the keypad, and over-all design sleekness (something Sony was never good at)

I want one.
I just hope the keyboard buttons are sturdy enough to press with the stylus, the p910 keyb is too flimsy and i never use it cos its too much bother, but a decent keyb would be a vast improvement on handwriting recognition.
Will this model have proper handwriting recognition or still just the rubbish letter by letter recognition used in the previous 'P' phones?

i must admit the keys on the main body do,look a bit cheap and plasticky and like you say not the easy to use they could have done likre you said and put lights on the flip instead |

I think you are in minority here claiming the old P910 keyboard was a good solution. You may have second thoughts about the one implemented on P990. But it is definitely more ergonomic and useful than the one provided by the P910 IMO.
The only person I know that has tested P990 at magazine Mobile.se says the new keyboard is much easier and better to use than then one on P910. So give it a try and you may change your mind.
The P990 screen is 2.76" compared to 2.8" for P910 (0.04" difference) . I doubet anyone can notice such small difference in reality, especially since it is compensated by larger resoluition.

As for most SE phones. Once released, people will change their mind. It has always been like that. |

A stupid question, but valid.
Why do they announce something now and make it available about four months later?
I think it might make good business sense, but as a consumer it doesn't make any sense.
By that time, I would have seen a lot of different phones and the interest would have decreased. I like the phone but in February/March, I might have got another phone.
Maybe they should announce when they are ready to ship, I believe they would make a lot of money. |
