Hello.

I own a W800, wich I think is branded (you call branded if I buy it from an operator directly, and not from, let's say, SonyStyle, right?). Well, if that's so, then it's branded cause I bought if from an operator.

When I go to SEUS to update my firmware (I have R100L2), it says that the operator doesn't support it, or something like that.

So now... what should I do? With firmware, after some days / weeks / months, may the operator be "unlocked", or if it's locked know it'll still be locked in the next 100 years?

Again... if that's so, what can I / should I do to update it? Someone cares to point me out? I know there are many posts already but tryied most and couldn't find a solution.

Here is my current firmware:

R1L002
prgCXC 1250092_EU_1_CA R1L002

LCD Current: 0

Camera Current: 4.4

ITP SW Version: CXC 125 932 R1E

CDA: CDA 102430/105 R2A cxc1250093 R1L002 AMERICA_2

Content: PA6

By the way, I saw this CDA listed in the post where the supported CDAs (theorically) are listed.

Thanks in advance folks.

It just means your operator has not yet approved and branded the latest firmware. In time they will approve and brand the firmware, and put it on SEUS, but noone can say exactly when. Usually it takes a few weeks after official release of new firmware before the branded ones get online.

If you do not have patience to wait for this (which I reccomend you do) then you have the option to unbrand and upgrade your firmware using Davinci. This is an unofficial sollution, you pay for the credits needed to do it, and you will lose your warranty, and sometimes the ability to use SEUS in the future. You also take a risk as there are allways a small risk something goes wrong when firmwareflashing. If so it will not be covered by warranty.

For more specific info on the flashing part, read some of the many threads about this subject, theres no reason to start repeating everything in this thread.

Thanks for your answer numb...

Now... operators always brand the firmware, or sometimes they don't and it'll be always 'blocked' for my operator?

And if by branding you mean: changing wallpaper, startup screen, etc. (a lot of points inside the cell); well, mine never had that... although I think FW needs to be branded even if the operator doesn't add nothing (maybe change something invisible to the user)?

Thanks again.

well, by branding I mean any kind of changes made to the firmware by the operator. It can be how ever litle, and sometimes difficult to spot, while other times its very obvious because the entire layout are changed. Sometimes its just the webicon or the startpage in the webbrowser. Usually if you buy a phone from an operator under some plan, its branded. But it is possible to buy a completely unbranded phone also frome operators.

I allways reccomend staying clear of branded phones because my experience is that many bugs arrise from the branded firmwares, while most unbranded phones has less bugs. Also branded firmwares take longer to release on SEUS because they need to be branded by the operators first.

But sometimes the best deals mean we have to live with branded phones

Even if a phone is not branded at all, the operator of the sim inside your phone still has to approve of the newly released firmware for their network before SEUS release, and sometimes this itself can take some time.

Davinci is a good alternative, as long as one understand and accepts the risks involved, even if they are small. I use Davinci on a regular basis myself. To unlock, to debrand or to revive a dead phone that SEUS cannot. But if possible I use SEUS as first try.

well enough of my pointless rambling

Operators sometimes are reluctant about letting users update phones themselves, so they don't approve the use of SEUS for that.

That doesn't mean they don't suppport firmware updates, if you go to any SE service centre they should be able to update the phone even if it's branded. [addsig]

Well... somehow I did updated it today! America_2... and certainly, the operator didn't approved it, specially considering that yesterday it was "blocked" and today it's not... but here is holiday! (monday 10)

So I dont know what happened, but I'm glad that it worked.
