Ok What is going on with eBay and Sony P910s? all the ones that have sold recently seem to have been bought by people that become unregistered very soon after the auction has ended? (just look for p(10s for sale on eBay UK and then select completed listings - you have to be a registered user).
I'm ready to sell my P910 (great condition & accesories) but I dont know if I can trust eBay. Does anyone want to shed light on what is happening? |

what is happening is foreign people are buying them in the UK on contracts and taking out insurance... after a few days they 'lose' the phone and get a replacement. The fone is unuseable in the UK but they generally sell them to anyone outside the UK as the imei blacklist doesnt extend further than out country...
obviously because of the legality of this they unregister themselves soon after a buyer is found.
This is in deed what is happening at the current time. |

Hmm that kinda makes sense - however its the buyers that are "no longer registered".
Theres at least 5 + auctions with exactly the same story for the p910. |

Ok, ive just sold My p910i on eBay, seems like there is soo much interest from scammers with this phone as I got countless enquirers from users registered that day. Nigerians, sick people, people offering £600 for a £200 phone, all sorts, makes me sick.
Also was getting bids from users with 0 feedback. My advice is to keep an eye on your auction and cancel the bids for the users with no feedback as soon as you can, I had to cancel 2 in the last minute of the auction so the geniune bidders had a chance. I know this may mean getting less for you item, but it nearly guarantees you wont be getting scammed. I am nearly sure that I disallowed people from bidding if they had 0 feedback, but that didnt work.
My advice is, if the user is relatively new to eBay and they have little or no feedback and they are bidding for an item over £20 do not trust them. Also stipulate something in the auction about 0 feedback users having to contact you, as if they dont - you should know not to bother with them.

I gave my own advice about this a few days back in the "sellers tips for ebay" thread where I said

I have learned that when selling phones I now only look at recent completed items for the same description of item that I have, I set my price based on an average and then only list with buy it now and pay immediately.
I have only ever done this with phones and I never get any problems and often the phones sell in a day or two only

I had the same problem when selling my ole nokia (now using K750, DaVinci'd to W800) the buyer wanted me to send to Nigeria all the time! If you report it to ebay they'll refund your listing fees and re-list it for free... But that doesn't stop you getting p**sed off with it all!
The person also tried to scam me by saying the payment is waiting with some company that when they recieve the goods I'll get payment... Sounded too dodgy to me!!!
I finally sold it to a legit person who paid up front using paypal |

I must say that having been eBaying for a few years and changing phones quite frequently- that the scammers are trying that bit harder.
I would love eBay to introduce a buyer requirement where zero feedback users cannot bid. At the moment its less than -1.

Lame
Seems easy enough to register new accounts, but then again you lose your built up feedback. |
