Do you do any programming at all at the minute, or do you need to know what languages would be best to start learning?

Well, the big three are Java, C and C++
Java, as you probably know, is what most games and apps for non-smartphones are written in.
C and it's 'big brother', C++ are the two most common languages used for creating games and apps for smartphones running Symbian series 60 (Mainly Nokia), Symbian UIQ (the SE smartphones' operating system) and also Windows mobile OS.
It's best to start learning by writing programs for the PC first. This is because once you've learned the basic skills, it's relatively easy to start writing for mobile devices.
I'd also suggest that, if you've never programmed before, you might like to start with an easier to learn language like Blitz Basic. Even though you can't use this to write stuff for mobiles, it'll teach you the basic principles of programming much more quickly. Programming is not just about knowing a language, it's also a problem solving exercise. Once you've got your head round how programming works, learning other languages becomes much more easy. C, C++ and Java are not known for their user friendliness!
Get yourself on google and have a look for compilers and tutorials for those languages. There's tons of free stuff out there, you don't have to pay to learn programming but if you're serious about learning Java, C and C++ I do suggest that you invest in a couple of good books.
