Sorry that I'm a bit behind with the term firmware. could I difine it as the program that makes an hardware to work or what? I have K700i and I heard in some of the thread that there are some firmware which are poor and other are perfect. Any clarification please. And how do I install it in my K700i? is it through Bluetooth, infrared or cable? Is it downloadable through the internet?

In my understanding, firmware is like the Operating System of the device that resides in the flash ROM. Much like Windows or Mac OS or Linux but doesn't have to be loaded every startup as it is already in the ROM. Some firmware programs are buggy specially the early releases and new revisions sometimes are released to fix some if not all known issues of the previous versions.
Upgrading your firmware is done by flashing or replacing the content of the flash ROM and requires special software and hardware combinations. In the case for example with the K700, you will need a sync station DSS-20 or DSS-25, connected to a PC via USB. DCU-11, IR or Bluetooth won't work for flashing as they require part of the firmware to operate them. Your PC should have the drivers for the syncstation and the upgrade software which can be downloaded from SE web-site. Note though that the on-line firmware upgrade from SE site may not be available on some areas. Check DaVinci Team also, they also offer on-line firmware upgrade & more (not free).

Hi Wilson- just to add, if am not mistaken. Though the SE Update is done via the internet, the download is live. That is you need to have the phone (connected via a computer) 'online'. Unlike say- installing an anti virus update, that can be d/loaded and run. ALSO, SEUS (Sony Ericsson Update Service) which happens thru internet and the respective Service Centres' are the ONLY authorised ways to update. Other people, sites offering updates (flashing) may give a better deal, but can also void the warranty.
