What's with the asian versions in SE phones? |

good day! i just happened to notice that on each phone released by SE, they happen to "remove" some functionalities in asian versions (like the "phonebook search bug", in which phones with that version CANNOT search their phonebook by more than one character). now i want to ask, what do they think of the "asian" users? illiterate? to the point that they would "remove" the multi-character search in the phonebook? i'm don't want to sound sarcastic here, but i really can't think of a good reason as to why they should do that...
about the camera shutter sound, it may be a 50/50 debate, but on this topic, i can't put myself on the opposite side and defend their opinions. can somebody please clarify what is it with the "asian version" that the makers of Sony Ericsson decided to do such customization? thanks in advance...

I can't answer the 1st Q. But the answer to the 2nd one is pretty easy actually.
It's out of SE's hands, basically. The regions where the shutter sound is always on, no matter what, are regions where the local governments have taken some sort of action against camera phones being used in illicit ways. I.e. being used to take pics of girls/guys when they're not looking or don't know it. That becomes especially the case if you're say in the locker room at your local gym, where most people walk around with either a towel or nothing at all on after a shower or something. I know I wouldn't want to have my pic taken like that. The shutter sound is there to alert the people around you that you have taken a picture.
The one thing I don't understand is that every single digital camera on the market makes some sort of noise when it takes a picture. I would assume that most people that have phones advanced enough to have a decent camera on it, have at some point or another had a digital cam. The only reason then I can see for them bitching about having the shutter sound on their phone, is so they can do exactly what the governement is trying to fight, their use for less than honorable purposes.

Well I have a qtek 2020 and I can completely mute the sound so no shutter sound and I have a canon Ixus 5.0 and I can chose "mute" from the menu, then I can chose for no flash and I can make pictures undetected, but then I'm holding the canera, which is suspicius, but not if you are just holding a cellphone or pda |

the asian versions cannot use multi-character search because chinese, thai, viet do not use latin characters like most of us do. | |
