As I was just IGNORED in the correct post, I'm making a new post with my questions (I'm not the only one since two people posted for the same anwsers on that thread...). So if anyone gives a damn, here it is:
Hi... I bought a W800 a couple of week ago and I have some questions (firmware regarded) that, I think may be already answered around in the forum, but I don't even know how to search for them as there are tons of results; so I'd be glad if someone had the time to answer me or point me in any direction. And by the way, I have the R1L002.:
1) Who releases these firmware? SE? Davinci? (whatever the hell that is)? Are they 'official'?
2) Where should I get the SEUS mentioned to update the phone? And where the firmware (binaries) files?
3) What about the branding?? I live in South America and the phone is completely brandless; except for the SIM menu and that's it...
4) Chances of failing and ruining the phone? Any other advice before trying?
5) Not very important but, as I said before... what the hell is Davinci? And underground team? Went to their site but couldn't find nothing!
Well... thanks in advance and think that you'll help a lot of other guyslike me too!

sony releases new firmwares.
they release them through Sony Ericsson Update Service (seus)
to go to seus, go to SE's website, shoose your phone, go to support, then update service
Seus only allows you to update your phone to new firmware, but in the same language, and with the same branding (if your operator allows it)
Davinci is a third party flasher that lets you debrandyour phone, or change the language, by flashing it with firmware for another regio/brand.
so, all firmware is by SE, but on SEUS youre limited by country and brand. thats why people use davinci or other flashers such as totalmultiserver
if your phone is already debranded, and you dont wont other languages, then youre fine with seus

Give SE some times !!!!
Even the popular P910i's update service is only operating after few weeks or months after the official released !!!!

What do you exactly mean by "language"? Because I don't think your refering to the "text" in which the menues / items are displayed, since I have various to select: English, Portuguese, Spanish...
If you are talking about that language, then, let's say I have it setted in english, SE releases a firmware "in english", will I be able to update it? Or it depends on the 'internal' region of the phone (I don't know... maybe they set something different for every area/continent?)
What if SE releases in english, I have it in spanish, try to update... when you say that "I won't be able", you mean that the software verifies if it can / can't be updated or that I will lose that language and go to the one of the firmware release (in that case, it would be english)
Oh... and by the way... will I lose the other languages I have as options to select?
Thanks, and hope I made myself clear!!!

well you didnt really make yourself clear at all, but here goes anyway!
Ok there are different regions of the world, and the people that live there speak different languages. When a phone is sent to a specific region, it comes with the languages for that region on it. What if you are a russian person living in South Africa? Your phone has a few languages available on it, but if its not the language you speak, you could reflash your phone to a different firmware made for a different region, that has your language. English is on all of them AFAIK. It doesnt matter what language you have your phone set on when/if you update, and you wont lose any languages. I hope that helps you understand a bit better...

Well... then, if I won't lose any language, why the need of the firmware to be the same language as the phone?
And how does SE knows this...: "Seus only allows you to update your phone to new firmware, but in the same language, and with the same branding (if your operator allows it)"?
Thanks

when you connect your phone to the Sony Ericsson Update Service,(SEUS), it detects which region code your phone has, and that tells it which languages your phone has. Thats why it wont change your languages, but if you use davinci to flash your phone, you can choose the region code you want, and therefore get the language that you want also.

if you just do a search of the boards for this, you will find MANY posts in the last few days about this. this is happeneing to everyone who tries to do it, its not just you. apparently SE has done this, and we must just wait until they get it back and running again.
