ok so nokia have surprised us all with those phones

but sony ericsson wont just stop at the t300, t68i, p800

lets face it the t200 and t600 arent really great phones they are stop gaps to fill product sectors that nokia rule. (sorry to the owners of those phones)

so what do do now? revamp the t68 again!? what about a t400 or a t500?

because they wont be able to live on the p800 alone.

any thoughts?

Like I've posted twice in other threads.... SE needs the ff:

1.)KILLER entry-level phone... T200/T600 with 8-bit screen
2.)KILLER low-end phone... T300 with 12-bit screen, more memory and neutral colors (silver, metallic black, etc...)
3.)KILLER mid-range phone... revamped R520m w/ 12-bit 128x128 color screen (actually, that's all this phone needs to be updated) and internal antenna
4.)KILLER small-phone... updated T68i, (T68j?) with 12-bit 128x128 color screen, more memory, Java, polyphonic ringtones
5.)KILLER Communicator... P800... with a 16-bit screen, and neutral colors (silver, gray, black, or 2-toned like the HBH30)

Nobody knows what they may be preparing!! Like so many thought that nokia went out of the competition, now don't make the same mistake again by thinking that se's going out too. It may strike soon with new designs.

All ericsson needs to do is start listening to people and create phones that people want and not phones they think people want all their lower end phones are shit unlike those that nokia are offering

Problem with SE is there devlopment time. How long ago did they announce the P800? And we are still no nearer the launch.

If Nokia bring these new phones to the market fast then that could see the end of SE. SE needs to get its act together and when it announces a new phone not wait 12 months to release it.

Frankly, I think all those new Nokia releases are just overated.

Sendo is suppose to come out with it's new Z100 anytime soon, which actually to me is a perfect replacement for my T68i and just as good as the P800, not to mention it's smaller size.

I posted some pictures of it on the "Other manufactures" forum.

Both the Z100 and P800 will be top of the line phones in the world, and Nokia has nothing comparable at the moment. If would also revamp the T68 again, I think it would be great too, since it's still top of the line at the moment with a great design.

If you want to spend a fortune on a cheap Nokia, go right ahead. I'll spend the same amount on my Z100 and others on there P800

i thought.....

would you rather see everyone holding an ericsson....
or would you rather be "exclusive"..?

it somehow boils to that idea.

Yes but Nokia has both the exculsive 'Vertu' and the seen every day phones '3310'. SE needs to compete with this kind of market control.

SE comes up with the most cutting edge ideas but then takes too long to launch them. Nokia might be copying SE but they bring there phones out much quicker after annoucement.

It's not really fair to say that SE takes longer to get phones to market. I realise some phones like the T68m and P800 were announced many months before they were released, but these well in advanced announcements tend to be for high end devices with something new to offer. Sometimes phones are announced just a few weeks before they are available e.g. T68i and T200.

This isn't just true of Sony Ericsson, but of other manufacturers. Remember that the 7650 was announced last year and came to market in August! It looks like the P800 is going to come out 1-2 months after it's anticipated Q3 launch, which is similar to the delay on the 7650 which was supposed to be Q2.

Also remember that over the last few years there have been a lot of technological firsts from Ericsson - who was the first to have a phone out that had GPRS/Bluetooth/EMS all in one? The P800 is another first device of it's type in terms of the advanced features it has.

Its not a matter of who produces the best phones - best being a relative term, nor does it matter if the company has many "firsts". The bottomline for SE is how to survive (or capture greater market share.)

It cannot do so by just producing technically superior phones (remember that VHS won over Betamax format), which few people appreciate because this translates to low sales. Producing "exclusive" phones would translate to them charging premium prices.

Most people dont need the fancy technical stuff, they like "friendly" interfaces (again, something subjective), endlessly customizeable (with those affordable cheesy accessories (with 3rd party manufacturers making them ridiculously cheap)), ringtones and logos. They have no need for GPRS, BT, IR, SyncML.

They need to diversify their products, and actively market themselves as the better alternative to whatever is out there.
