Hi all, im new to esato,
I recently bought a W800i on orange upgrade, they sent me a new sim as well. as i am keeping my old number ornage told me that the old sim will stop working and the new one would begin within 24 hours... well that was about 36 hours ago... the old one is still working and the new one just says 'Sim inactive'; when i switch the w800i on.... i have registored the sim with orange. Anyone with any advise?
Note - i have still got my old sim switched on in my old Samsung D500.... Is this preventing the sims to be switched over?
Thanks all |

maybe you need to stop using your old sim, turn them both off, and give orange customer services a call to check that its been activated.
BTW Welcome to esato!

Hey, thanks for the quick reply - god, this esato ids good!
Um, anyone, back to the post, I have switched both phones off for about half of the 36hours and still no joy - i even phoned orange yesterday and told them this and they just said it takes up to 24hours... (when i phoned i had been waiting about 20 hours)..
Im at a loss and im dying to start using my w800i, i asked orange if i could simply put my old sim card in the phone and they recommended i didnt do that as i may lose some of the features of the phone...
Any help
Cheers all!!!! |

mmm, well usually the activation is pretty quick, make sure you keep your old sim off from now though

Say.. I know this is kinda off topic, but how do you find the samsung d500? Any prob or quirks you'd complain about? And is the t9 as good as nokia's or sony ericsson's? Like auto caps at the start of sentences? Thanks!

I found the D500 very good - bit hard to start off with (getting used to a new phone with new menus and all) but when you get used to it, its really simple to use. texting is a doddle, caps at the start of sentances is v handy...
No compliants with the D500 atall, im only put graded becaause supposadly im classed as a heavy user and i could have a new phone and tarrif.....
Probably gonna sell my D500 on ebay now lol

If i were you though deluded, i'd wait for the D600, the video quality is amazing.
Thats if you've got your heart set on a Samsung phone, and not SE.

Yup, i've checked out the specs of the d600 on gsmarena.com (it's a really good site) and i'm really impressed by it. It's a pity it's not out yet over in singapore. Is it out anywhere? I'm in love with the k750 as well! Sigh..

@leeboy13, having changed sims keeping the same number a few times myself I can only suggest you call orange.
For me its worked with both sims on and with both sims off.
I had it explained to me by vodafone and O2 and both said that what the operator does is simply enter the number printed on the new sim card into their system and that feeds to the network so there is no real need to have the phone off during the transitional period. One sim will suddenly stop when the network no longer finds a record of the sim number and the other one will start the next time it looks for a connection.
It can be that the new sim card won't connect right away and you can certainly cycle the power off and on to help that process but doing that is pointless until the old sim has lost its connection.
edit: my wife loves her D500 and wouldn't even let me give her a K750 in exchange for it. problem is it doesn't have bluetooth voice dialling so we're waiting and hoping they added that in the D600 in which case she will want that next...

@leeboy13, sorry about going off topic. Hope your problem gets resolved soon. I'm sure masseur must be right about how the sim works behind the scenes, so just be patient and maybe pester your service provider. (btw, leeboy13, check your pm)

Thanks all,
I just got off the phone to them and youre right... its just a matter of time before the sims change over, so they told me to use the old sim in the new phone for now (coz i was getting annoyed at not being able to use my new toy).
W800i all fired up now and loving every second of it.
Cheers again to all who offered assistance

I know what you mean. I use esato a lot, and i don't even own a sony ericsson phone. It's a matter of time i should think. =) I'd get the k750 if i could, it's a great phone too!
