LONDON and RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C., Sept. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Sony
Ericsson today announced that Najmi Jarwala will join the company as president
of Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications, Inc. for the North America region
effective October 17th. Prior to joining the Sony Ericsson joint venture,
Jarwala held several leadership positions with AT&T Wireless Services, most
recently as senior vice president, Customer Equipment, Supply Chain.
"The North America region is critical to Sony Ericsson's long-term future
global success, and we will continue to invest in this important region.
Leveraging the heritage of our parent companies, Sony Ericsson led the way
with high quality photos from a mobile phone and now the Walkman(R) music
phones are also proving to be very popular," said Miles Flint, president of
Sony Ericsson. "Najmi joins us at a good time. He possesses tremendous
operating skills with an intimate working knowledge of a wide range of
wireless technology and solutions. His industry experience will be a valuable
asset to us in driving the next phase of our growth, and we believe Najmi is
an exceptional choice to lead our team in North America."
Jarwala said, "Sony Ericsson is quickly gaining a reputation for the most
innovative and feature rich handsets available today, and this is a tremendous
opportunity for me. I look forward to working with the global and regional
management teams to help the company rapidly expand its business in North
America."
Jarwala has a Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the
University of Massachusetts at Amherst and has successfully completed the
Wharton Advanced Management Program.
