W800i on Vodafone? |

Looking to upgrade soon and after the unveiling of the shockingly disappointing Rokr, I am resigned to an SE (nothing against SE, love 'em, just wanted iTunes).
But my question is, as I'm going to be stuck with the new phone for another year, is the W800i the best bet or are there any others in the pipeline?
Also, and most importantly, do Vodafone booger about with the menus on the W800? I haven't forgiven them for what they did to the S700i I tried to buy last year...

As far as I am concerned, the only really interesting phones due for release soon are the Nokia N series (N90, N91, N70).
See O2's Coming Soon section for a list of phones that are due out shortly for all the main players:

Incidentally, I have not personally seen a Vodaphone W800i, but as Voda put their horrible customization on all previous SE phones I am sure they will do it to the W800 too.
If you are coming towards the end of your contract I would seriously consider moving to a 'better' operator (as long as the signal is ok where you live and the price per month is roughly equivalent).
Personally I like O2's web offers, mainly because of the 500 free tests per month and the lack of branding.

I thought that SE stopped any networks badly branding the W800i. This should limit the branding to a link on the main menu to the vodafone homepage and startup and shutdowns. I havent seen them myself so cant confirm this.
The other thing to do is to buy the phone from Carphone Warehouse like I did and they give out unbranded/unlocked handsets for vodafone and o2 contracts.

Which are the "better" operators. I'm in the same position, and am wondering about upgrade vs move. O2 aren't an option, we don't get a decent signal where I live.
And should I go direct to the company? if not, which is the best way to get a new contract? |

Thanks for the advice guys. I think I'm stuck with Vodafone as everyone I know is on that network and it'd end up costing me more to move, even with free mins etc.
I do like the W800 but as it's been out for a bit, I'd hate to commit to it, only to find out something better is waiting in the wings. You lot seem so much better informed than me! I've half an eye on the W550 also...
As for the branding, I nearly cried when I saw what Vodafone had done to the beautiful, sky blue animated menus on the S700. I can't bear the awful red, Fisher Price looking menus that they slapped onto it. That really would make me swap networks....
Will keep researching! |

i have the Vodafone branded contract W800i and they have not interfered with the menu the only thing thats Vodarised is the internet access. i.e. it comesup vodafone live when you access the Wap but thats easily bypassed via bookmarks. theres no voda branding on the casing either.
any questions? |

Is it possible to change the predefined internet settings on the voda w800 as other voda branded phones dont let you.

Cheers Tiger. Now I just have to work out how to get one for cheaper than £150 on upgrade when I still have a month or so to run on my contract! |
