well, you have to consider the manufacturing area and the distance from there to the market. shipping of these stuff cost. so you have to pay the consequence of that and there is more like taxes differ country to country....my fellow will add more....

@ yeo- agree with wilson completely, just not possible... se like the other manufacturers have to adjust the prices according to the market forces, resulting in the non-uniformity of prices worldwide...
which imho helps some ppl more than others... |

In fact, McDonalds have quite different prices in different countries around the world.
But then again, in a single shopping centre I have seen the W800i at $799, $899, $929, $999 and $1129 (Australian dollars) so you figure that one out!

They also have to take into account standards and costs of living in each country - for example wage levels in the UK and India are vastly different (And one reason why so many companies are 'outsourcing' to countries like India and China).
So if you tried selling a K750i at exactly the same price in worldwide there would be some places where sales would be poorer than expected as the phone may be set at a price which is equivalent to the average man's wages for a few months in that country!

Even within one country, the price will vary depending on whether the phone is branded, unbranded, what deal it comes with (for example, 24 month contract, prepaid package, outright etc), and which operator/store it is being sold through.
And also what market it is pitched at. For example I've seen many instances of W800 being sold for $1000 which is is much as a 3mp digital camera, ipod and a phone all bought separately would cost. Yet the poor old K750, virtually the same phone, in the same store, being sold for $599. They are trying to cash in on the walkman badge.

Its not S//E that sets the retail price, its the retailer.
Its not S//E that trys to catch in on the walkman brand, its the retailers.
The price that retailers have to pay S//E for the W800 are almost identical to the price they pay for the K750, the difference is only about 30$
The retailers are then free to set their price according to normal price setting factors.

Absolutely. Buy low sell high, first law of the market.
Once the operators and independants get a hold of the handsets it's mayhem. A phone could cost from $299 to $1099 from one store to the next |

Wow!! That price range is really crazy!
And I bet there are some dumb asses that go to the store that sells them for $1129 and buy it there...
