@ solidsingh here is that laptop built in gprs for phone calls on a Vodafone plan, average games (PS2 games aren't that good ) all you need now is a seperate GPS receiver though..and its your perfect device.

I think we need to stick to the realms of reality (at least in regards to the near future) so I'd say the i-mate JasJar is not far from what can be acheived in these times. Ok so it doesn't have a GPS but a fairly cheap SD GPS will solve that.
a laptop is fine but most small ones do not have built in GPRS/wifi/3g like the JasJar does and even few come with microsoft office compatibility (and yes, many say they don't like microsoft but most do use word and excel) and even fewer are able to synchornise their stuff as well as windows mobile devices do (I know because I have tried most)
when roll-up oled screens become widely available and some way to provide longer battery life then that will be the time that we'll see the next major step forward in portable electronics IMHO

yeah, I checked that out when you posted it recently in another thread but at twice the cost of the JasJar, no 3g data, not pocketable and pay extra for MS office compatibility I decided against it right away
but like the JasJar its certainly heading in the right direction
whether it is SE or not really has little to do with it I think

actually, no, I don't swing that way
if you read my comments elsewhere you'd know that I am indifferent about the device but thats a bit off topic for this thread which is looking towards the future. I just feel that some recent devices are pointing the way and thats the point I am making

lets take the ericsson RX1 and add a screenprodjector and thats it.
don't know about the RX1? well have a look in the big /// thread. its the most advanced phone/prototype ever build. and according to some people and movie clips, it actually worked.
imaging a K750 with symbian, more build in memory, build in gps, full touchscreen, very strong and newly designed battery, 3G, long range bluetooth, wifi.
and it would be as compact as a K750
but since you guys all love SE more you can expect such a device in about 2-3 years. instead of Xmas
With Ericsson and Nokia gone: we must keep their spirits alive and buy JOLLA or YOTA |
