W800i verses Motorola ROKR |

I'm a Mac user in Sydney and was about to purchase a Sony Ericsson w800i as I liked the idea of being able to load my phone with mp3's and hopefully patch it into my car stereo via a mini jack connection. Has anybody done this? Do you think the new Motorola POKR is a better option for Mac uses. I use itunes but I have more sophisticated music soft ware if needed.
Thanks Rick |

Hi Rick,
Here is my 2 cents... I am also a Mac user... I was over in Asia while the SE W800i first came out and I knew at the time, Motorola and Apple had a phone coming in the near future... I was very skeptical about Apple teaming up with Motorola, as I had a feeling that the phone was going to be designed solely by Motorola instead of Apple. thus being said, the only "Apple" about the new Rokr phone is the integrated iTunes software being built-in the phone. Apple had no design on the asthetics or the GUI, thus being said, whereas the W800i advertise it being "PC" only.... BUT before i bought W800i I found a third party software which allows Mac users to transfer their songs without crashing the computer. I knew held or used the ROKR phone but from what i've seen and read, the Sony Ericsson got high rating, which is why i bought it... from a user perspective I chose Sony hands down. I for one am NOT a big fan Motorola phone (personal perference) i think SE phones look much better and their GUI is more intuitive. the SE W800i has everything u would need, 2mp camera, bluetooth, video, big screen, 262k color .... only downside it does not support 3G or EDGE technology, but living in Toronto Canada, 3G is useless to me... as we do not have that service yet.... i hoped i helped ) |

W800i easily destroys the ROKR. No contest.
The Walkman also looks hotter by a mile and you also get a 2MP camera.

ROKR has a built in 100 iTunes DRM song limit. So if you want to use the iTunes application, you can only have 100 songs. If you only have MP3s, then you can use as many as you want, but you have to use Motorola's java based MP3 player which is also included on the phone.

The ONLY advantage of the ROKR phone is I think the stereo loudspeaker. Other than that, W800i is better in any other aspect. |

I believe Rokr 100 song limitation also due to the limitation for transflash card developement.....the maximum memory size for Transflash to date is 512MB.
Whereby W800 is using MSD which is now at 2GB...so for those who have the $ to spend on MSD of 1GB and 2GB, W800 offered more capacity. It also come with RDS radio
Comparing the playback thru speaker, even W800 only have one speaker, the quality is very good.....especially if you put the unit on the table, the reflection of sound on the table somehow give it more power for music playback.
TO me I just don't like Rokr because it have no " OHHH" power like all the Apple product we seen. I even doubt TIMES will put the phone on their latest issue (A common TIMES practice whenever Apple launch a new product)
OF course the downside for getting a W800 is the price. |

I agree with everyone that the W800 is better in every way. It looks much cooler, has more included storage capacity, a 2MP camera (versus VGA), and it's a . The W800 is more expensive, but its numerous superior features more than make up for the price difference!

@batesie
Cool poll, I voted "miss" of course...
To me the 100 hundred song limitation make it useless.
And a VGA camera when all the competitors are offering 2.0MP on similar phones??? Please!

Heck I'd say the 6230i beats the ROKR. And we know how that compares to the W800.

I am lucky, but I just added the ROKR to my collection, which includes a W800i, and whilst I agree it's not as accomplished as the SE, it is a good handset, the iTunes is very well integrated, and works beautifully with iTunes 5.
It is exceptionally well made, and the features are good, and to be honest the GUI, whilst not as friendly as SE, is simple enough once you play with it, and does everything you need of it, and has a few little option the SE misses.
For the fact it's cheaper and can be had on any tariff for free, it does open the style of phone up to a market who cannot afford the W800.
The speakers are also excellent.
A final point is it actually works properly with my Bluetooth in my car unlike my K750 or my W800, but thats another story....... |
