Definitely get the ipod. No competition. The K750 is a great phone, but the ipod is so much better than a phone for playing mp3's with it's scrollwheel and better interface that it's a no-brainer.
Also, the build quality on the nano and ipods in general puts the sony ericsson to shame. My k750 feels like it's going to break everytime i push a button.
I like my K750, but I love my iPod! I'm jealous of the new nanos, they look so damn cool in black. Get the 4GB nano! |

@skinjob, while not disputing your comments, I think the point is that if you already have a phone capable of music, be it a p series or the K750 or W800 (the original poster doesn't mention which), then why buy and carry a second device for music. certainly thats where I was coming from in my first reply here. I have a 2gb card in my phone and have never owned a separate mp3 player of any type
I am interested whether the music quality put out by ipod is really that much better than the same music played on an SE phone? I've never tried it myself but I do have a friend who is a real music aficionado who says he can tell the difference but I wonder if others feel the same?

@ masseur
I have both a K750 and an ipod (a 30G iPod Photo).
I actually find it less of a hassle to take my ipod with me than the K750 with relevant headphones/adpaters etc. (i can't stand the headphones that come with the K750!)
The ipod definitely has better sound quality, but the main reason I like it is that it's a purpose built mp3 player with by far the best UI of any around. The scrollwheel is a genius touch. The K750 is OK but really doesn't compare to an iPod. As I said before, I like my K750, but I love my iPod! There's much more to it than comparing specs. The iPod is so well made, looks great and is just generally a joy to use. The K750 is great too, and is by far the best phone I've ever had, but it's not even close to tempting me to leave my iPod at home for mp3s. iTunes is my preferred mp3 software, so it doesn't help that you can't use it with the k750 easily.
Given the choice between a 2G card for my K750 and a Nano, I'd bite your hand off for the Nano. Put a card and a nano on a table next to each other and see which one you'd go home with... Nano every time |

I do find comments like this interesting and always try to be impartial and pass on such comments when people ask my opinion.
However I have mentioned in quite a few threads now that I am really for the idea of multi functional devices, even if that involves some compromise but as technology develops, those compromises are becoming less and less.
anyway, both my kids want some kind of ipod for christmas so that will be the perfect opportunity for me to actually try one!

I own a K750 and an ipod mini (and a digital camera).
I've got a few mp3s on my k750, but to be honest I don't like the earphones, it drains the battery, etc, etc...
The ipod mini stores and plays all my music. It lasts 18-20 hours, and works with whatever earphones I stick in it. I'm usually carrying a bag when travelling on trains, etc (this is the main time I listen to music), so the ipod usually stays in my bag.
Whilst multifuction devices have always been fun to own, I'd rather carry both a small mp3 player, and a small phone. The ipod nano is perfect as it's so small, it really IS pocketable (ipods are too big IMO).
I also think phone cameras are pretty useless. When I take a picture I want to keep it - develop it, and the K750 is borderline quality.
In fact, for a phone, I want all the great features and UI of the K750, but no camera - just a sleek, super strong (metal?) casing. Problem with getting small/camera-less phones is they are "budget" models, and hence rubbish!
PS: I second the fact that I feel my k750 is going to break if I press the buttons! |

im one who likes to carry 2 devices as i feel the ipod sounds a better than the k750.
thats not to say the k750 is bad just not as good. it really comes down to me if you want 2 devices in your pocket and weather you want to compromise sound s quality
i can see both side here and for anyone who wants only 1 device you could do a lot worse than a k750/w800 |
