Hi, my brother is doing an assignment on "web servers" any got any idea what software would be needed to use a pc as a web server?

depends on what operatingsystem he runs... but Apache is a good webserver, and can be runned on most systems.. and it's free...
then you have the built in webserver under Windows. PWS in Win95/98, is found on the installation CD, but it does have limited functionality. IIS under WinNT/2000/XP, also located on the installation CD.

thanks mate.....i also need to know how to manage the secuity and "currency" (make sure thers no duplication i think) on a server, i know the security bit, just the "currency"

when it comes to webservers under Windows, try with http://www.microsoft.com/technet there you can find lots of info....
