I just enabled multi-character entry on the phonebook search of my Asian K750i with SEUS.

Previously, I upgraded my sister's European K750i to R1L002 using SEUS. During the update I

noticed that the firmware was temporarily stored inside "C:\Program Files\Sony

Ericsson\Update Service\software-data" before it was written to the phone. When SEUS

prompted me to turn off the phone, I did a backup of the 2 files inside the folder for

possible future use before continuing with the update.... to cut the story short, the update

was successful.

Recently I bought myself a K750i, its firmware was Asian R1J002.. no multi-character input

when searching for a phonebook entry. I really wanted to do search of my phonebook by

typing the first few characters instead of just the first..

Here's how I did it. I run SEUS. When I reached the part when it prompted me to "turn off

the phone, unplug it then plug while pressing "C"" I moved the 2 Asian FW files from

"C:\Program Files\Sony Ericsson\Update Service\software-data" to my backup folder then

copied the Europeian FW (the 2 files which I previously backed up during my sisters K750i

update) to "C:\Program Files\Sony Ericsson\Update Service\software-data". Renamed it so that

their filename will be the same as the 2 files of the Asian FW(matched the file size when

renaming). I then continued with the update.. During the writing of the firmware to the

phone it said "communications error... " I just unplugged the phone, removed then reinserted

the battery then turned it on. That's it.. I can now do multi-character search on my

phonebook.

I should have tried flashing it with W800 first. I can't update my FW anymore since it's currently the latest. I guess I'll have to wait for the next FW update so that I can try flashing it with W800 FW. Anybody tried anything similar to this? Please post your results.

you can still update it again, it will reupdate the same firmware, but are you willing to take that risk ?
