I didn't find this article in the search, just saw it on /. and it's about faster Ir sending/recieving.

"Of note, existing IrDA-enabled devices can be upgraded to the new protocol, thus offering the opportunity to accelerate the IrDA data transfer rates of devices in the field via a software update. Additionally, IrSimple is backward-compatible with current-generation IrDA-enabled communications, so devices implementing IrSimple will be able to communicate with today's generation of IrDA."
This is interresting for many people, though I don't think that the range of Ir will improve though. IrSimple-4M protocol looks promising, shame that we can't get the 16-100Mbit transfers though.

The 4Mbps protocol isn't something new, it's commonly called "Fast IR" and is a standard in most any laptop (as mine, an old PIII-850, DELL C600), the problem is that IR device on the mobile should be upgraded too... IMHO this is only possible through a firmware update if the SE-stuff will develop it and for every SE model... hard thing to think but maybe... I really hope so!!!!! ...at least for my K700i model
Ciao!
