nothing odd about it.
The DCIM folder is a special folder for the camera to store pictures.
The folder has special properties to ensure correct numbering of the images. The automatic numberingsystem would get corrupted if the pictures were renamed. This is absolutely normal for every digicam.

seams abit crap to me that a file cant b simply named something different without the whole thing gettin confused. surely its not that hard 2 number the next file whatever it should be, duno how the old files should offect anything, they should b just stored there not used

that you will have to take up with the developers that have invented digicams and the way the software of digicam functions
I can only tell you that this is how it is.
Its not a special K750 or S//E thing, every digicam use a DCIM folder like this.
But what is the problem with this ? Why do you need the renamed pictures to stay in the specific camerafolder ? If you rename or edit a picture directly on the phone it will automatically be saved in the correct image folder outside the DCIM folder, and if you want to store pictures on the memorycard using your computer, its just as easy to store in the image folder as in the DCIM folder and they will show up under images on the phone.
