Hi all - I'm afraid I'm new to all this but someone at work suggest I use this forum as he'd found it really useful. I'm currently on a contract with BT Mobile (don't worry, I've already joined the support group) but I think I'm wasting money as I'm not a heavy user. I'm looking for the best PAYG deal and have been looking around but just getting more and more confused. From their web sites, Orange seem to be a strong contender, but so does 02. Does anyone have any experience of these companies (on PAYG) or know of new deals in the 'off'ing' ?

Cheers - Tib.

If you get a payg sim from the O2 online shop you get 300 free messages a month as long as you top up with £10 every month.

You'll also find in the 'Accessories for sale' section people selling those sims for a pound or two each, and probably every network's PAYG sims cheaply too

I think O2 online sim is flavour of the month. You can also get free wap, sometimes, and 10% back when you top up.

Thanks for the replies guys - this forum 'thang' really works ! Looks like 02 is the way to go then. I've been chatting about it at work a bit today and it turns out that Orange are offering up to 50% of your top-ups back, which sounds better than 02 initially- but, this bonus is limited to £25 per month; it can only be used on one of their tariffs (forgot which one - sorry) and the bonus will run out after 30 days, whether you used it up or not (I think !).

Thanks again - Tib.

And you only get 50% back if you spend £50 a month.

Thanks for that JC - I've heard that to. I also heard today from my boss, that 02 are going to extend their 'talkalotmore' tariff. 02 bods who top-up £30 already get 300 minutes but lesser mortals who only top-up £15 will now get 150 minutes - sounds pretty good !

Looks as though you just about got it sussed. Seems as though the O2 offer is the one of the moment, although tesco mobile isn't too bad either depending on how much you use it.

It seems as though the networks are having another PAYG frenzy with T mobile and Vodaphone announcing new deals to try to combat O2's offers.

Though, if you think you'll use the £10 or £15 quids worth plus the 300 texts aswell - you're better off with O2

Thanks for that 'N56' - I'm pretty sure I'll end up going with 02 but I'm terrible at making decisions ! I'll be "umming & arring" for ages yet probably ! Have you heard of 02's 'direct upgrade channels'? Somebody mentioned it today but they couldn't really explain what it was !

Direct upgrade channels is jargan for talking over the phone directly to O2, instead of going to a retailer to upgrade etc,

hope this helps,

Thanks for that N56 - that makes sense. The 02 thing is looking promising - if you add all the different parts of the rewards stuff together it's a pretty good deal - 'the sum of the parts is greater... etc.

Yup O2 is good at the moment, but if you haven't already got O2 then look at T-mobile Mates Rates or Vodaphone's Stop the Clock. Both are good deals and it just depends who your friends are on, and when you use your phone most of the time. Worth a look though,

Thanks for that n56 - I've had a look at some other deals and there's a few snags. If you go to T-Mobile's 'mates rates' the 1st hour's call is free but that's a one-off offer and the other goodies only last for 3 months and once you switched to this tariff, you're stuck with it.

With the Vodaphone stop the clock thing, yes you can talk for an hour and only pay for 3 mins but it's restricted to evenings & weekends only and if you go over the hour, the call charges rocket !

02 is still the strongest I think - just need to decide on the kind of phone i want. Ohh, almost forgot - o2 have just introduced this download thing (Blueroom) where you download an icon to your desktop and then they send you alerts about special deals and freebies etc. Check out the link - Cheers Tib.
