Have been on a virgin tarriff for a while, but costing me too much - don't want a contract what Payg do people suggest?
Presumably I could just fit the sim in my old phone - oh yes - it's a nokia 3510i! Sorry about that... |

Go with the O . £10 gets you 300 free texts and 1mb of data + 10% back upon top-up. Bargain!

how much (time) is the the 1mb of data from O2, coz I've also found out now that Orange is doing a 50% off deal on PHONECALLS!?
Isn't the O2 customer service ***p? |

To recommend a tariff we'd really need to know your average usage, so:
How much do you currently spend on Virgin PAYG per month on average?
How many minutes of voice calls do you use and at what times of the day on average?
How many texts do you send per month on average?
How much WAP/GPRS do you use per month on average?

Ok, how about Tesco Mobile Value SIM?
60 anyone/anytime minutes per month @ 15p/min = £9.00
15 texts @ 5p/text = £0.75
That's less than £10 per month for what you're currently using.
And they've got a half price SIM offer currently with £5 of airtime.
EDIT: Just noticed it doesn't allow roaming or MMS...

Oh my god! That is very tempting - I'll look into that right away. Presumably I just pop down there and get the sim?
I'm amazed that none of the 'real' phone companies can do better than that! Tells you a lot about them, or is it a sort of bland patch for them - are they moving away from PAYG?
Cheers once again,
ah - presumably if it doesn't work abroad I need a phone that fits two sims.

Or how about the O2 Online Pay as you Go 'Talkalot with Calls and Messages' tariff?
You get 100 Anyone/Anytime Minutes or 100 Text Messages or 33 Media Messages for £10 per month top-up or a combination.
(The inclusive anyone anytime minutes, the text messages and the media messages are part of the same allowance. 1 minute of call time is equivalent to 1 text message. 1 media message is equivalent to 3 text messages or 3 minutes of calls.)

Easy mobile - just checked it out and it seems as though you have to top up over the net - can't actually do it from your phone and if you do there is a service charge - not nice.
O2 - doesn't look too bad at all, though I'm always a bit curious about their network - have heard of people getting network problems etc, charges to customer services etc |

Well, I'm on O2 (Contract however, used to be on PAYG but wanted a free phone!) and I've never had any network problems in 8 years.
I've not had any problems with Customer Services either, just a couple of minor things that were sorted out quickly...
I'm gonna switch my wife onto the O2 online £10 per month tariff when her current BTMobile contract ends. There's really nothing to beat it currently.
You could get 80 anytime/anyone minutes plus 20 texts for £10 top-up per month. 25% more than you currently use for 33% less money!!

right, thanks for that - put my fears to rest. It seems to be the offer of the moment as you say. I just checked the Orange website aswell and it looks as though you can only get their offer when you buy the £50 top up - no less!! Totally hopeless for me due to the outlay all at once. |
