im just wondering if my k750i comes with any kind of warranty? like other electrical goods u usually get 90 day warranty.

the reason being, the earpiece inside the phone has packed in and vodafone are palming me off with a reconned handset because ive had it longer than 2 weeks.

ive only had it 3 weeks and this is a fault with the phone so surely i should get a new one? is it worth trying to contact sony ericsson about this?

any help or suggestions appreciated

your K750 has a 1 year warranty within the country you bought the phone or within the whole EU if bought within EU.

you can find mention of this in the manual.

as already mentioned you have 1 year warranty on it... but get a new one is not likely, then it should be brought back as faulty within one week and have practically no talk time at all (don't exatly remember theese rules for , but think it's 7 days and maximum of 10min of talk time), a so called DOA (Dead/Defect On Arrival)...

All goods sold in the UK (and EU) legally must have 12 months manufacturers warrenty against manufacturing defects.

If, within, the 12 month period the goods become faulty, through a manufacturing defect, the goods must be repaired to the original specification, within a reasonable time scale.

To this end the manufacturer has a few options.

1. Ask for the goods to be returned, repair the goods and return them to the customer.

or

2. replace the goods with new product, either identical, or equivalent specification.

If the goods have to be return 3 times and the goods are not repaired, then the goods have to be replaced with a new item.

Points to note are as follows,

All postage charges are NOT covered by the company, they can insist that you as the consumer, pay the postage.

if the items is replaced with a new item, the warrenty does not start again. For example if you buy an item in january, and it is replaced in November, the 'new' item only has a 1 month warrenty, as it is not legally a 'new' product, but still the original.

Hope this clears it up for you

regards

david

As a footnote, the reason Vodafone are offering you a re con handset is actually to speed things up for you. The actualy warrenty is with SE, and the retailer is Vodafone, so technically, you need to return it to Voda, who then return it to SE to be repaired, and then SE return it to Voda, who return it to you. This may take up to 8 weeks. To prevent this delay, Voda offer to collect the phone and give you a perfect re con handset. If you are not happy, you can ask for it to be repaired, but you have to wait the time.

Phone manufacturers have whats called an OBF (out of box failure) period that the various companies usually can fall back on. I believe here in NZ with its 14 days from the time of purchase. (From a valid local dealer )

This might be different in other countries, I guess some of the people here that are dealers as well can answer that one.

Other networks might have longer periods within which to return a "faulty" phone too.

SE would almost certainly honour a twelve month warranty in most parts of the world. That means they will "replace or repair" at their discretion. A reconned phone is not a repair or replacement, so if you don't get any joy from the store you bought from go directly to SE (an SE repair centre, or contact SE and mail them your phone)

Unfortunantly they won't supply a courtesy handset, this is only something you can ask of the store you bought the phone. If they are trying to palm off a reconned unit, they probably won't give you a courtesy phone! But you can try and demand it.
