The photos put up by Eldar who claims to have taken it with a P800 do not look better than those from the Nokia 7650; certainly not as good as those seen from MCA-20... HOWEVER, Eldar conveniently refused to show any picture of the battery compartment which leads me to believe that his P800 could actually be a prototype unit not actual production model meant for retail... anyway, until someone actually gets a retail version of P800 there is still a possibilities the picture quality might be different from those shown on Eldar's review...
This is very common in digital cameras - the prerelease cameras picture quality can be not as good as the final release (check out sites like dpreview.com)...

In my oppinion, if you want 1st class pictures buy a digital camera. A camera built in to a phone(!) will never be as good as a dedicated one. (Yes, yes, yes... I know I've commented on this before).
The way i'm going to be using the camera is quite simple, I don't carry a camera where ever I go, but I do carry my phone. So the P800 is really just a substitute for the real mc.coy.

@tranquil
yup i agree.
i wouldnt expect the cam to be as good as a stand-alone digicam.
it's as if you're expecting a t68's non-scientific calculator to do sines and cosines. |

I'm not expecting it to be as good as a real digicam, but I was expecting it to be at least as good as the mca-20. But it's not.
At least not as good as the photos posted here, made by a mca-20. |

it is really non sense to put a camera in a phone unless its a high resolution camera, but maybe it wont be that bad.

Guys did you see this? http://www.mobile-review.com/review/sonyericsson-p800pics1-e.shtml
The pictures here are a bit better.... I think that the images that were taken in the link in the top of the page were not done in optimal conditions, and i think that they don't represent the true quality... |

The quality of the MCA-20 and the P800 are exactly the same.....
It's not like the MCA-20 has brilliant picture quality......
It just depends if you move the camera a little while taking the pic....

Based on the photos I've seen posted here, I'd say that the mca produces better pictures than P800.
To me it seems very strange that SE would have made a poorer quality camera on the P800, than the mca-20. |
