The 8800 is a masterpiece. And it's a 6230i not a 3310. Plus, what about the T610/T630/K700i? Those three were the same phone with minor upgrades between them.

thats exactly why i didnt buy the k750/w800... because theres only minor changes. im happy with my old t630 (black one) ive NEVER had a nokia, and u cant exactly get a 3310 in the shops now, besides, as far as i understand, the 8800 is all about style, and being different and standing out, not so much about groundbreaking technology

The 8800 doesn't compare with the K750, but Nokia aren't trying to make it compete. It doesn't even compare with the 6230i, because the people buying it won't, and don't, care.

Sure, a lot of us will want an 8800 for its style and then be disappointed about the pretty poor spec (and the SVGA camera is terrible - it looks like it's actually an ordinary VGA camera and the software upscales it to 800x600) but we aren't the people Nokia are trying to sell it to.

Giving it a top spec would put off customers who want the style but also simplicity. However, Nokia has messed up by making the keypad so hard to use (especially using the navigation keys). I doubt it will make any difference to the sales, but I think it will mean that many owners (and they can afford to do so) will swap as soon as something better comes out from Nokia or someone else.

This could result in the 8800 losing its value a lot quicker than the 8850/8910s before it. Motorola, NEC and Samsung all have ultra-thin handsets either on sale, or about to go on sale. Now even Siemens are getting in on the act! I wonder when Sony Ericsson will go for a top-end, high priced, ultra fashionable phone based on the T290 or something.
