W800I - Music Transfer? Look in. |

If, like me, you've been less than happy with the way disc2phone doesn't support WMA files for transcoding to your W800I, then please email Sony Ericsson from their support pages to request that they add the ability to transcode WMA (including Lossless) to MP3 via disc2phone.
In the meantime, having spent the last couple of days trying to find a (slick) way of converting any kind of audio file to a form the w800i can cope with AND generating a compatible folder structure for the phone, I've finally found a solution that works reasonably well.
First of all, use WINAMP (www.winamp.com) to index your music collection, then install this transcoder plug-in:
http://www.srcf.ucam.org/~wdhf2/transcoder/
The instructions for use of the transcoder are on that page.
Within the options for the transcoder, you can make it create the correct folder structure for the W800I (eg ArtistAlbumSong)
You can also set the output file type to AAC, or MP3 whichever you prefer, setting a bitrate that will generate file sizes more appropriate for your memory stick.
It isn't the fastest process to convert, but it is the most convenient way I've found of getting files to the W800I. Sure, there are tools that will rip down to a given file type and bitrate, but getting the W800I folder structure isn't so convenient.
If anyone else has any better solutions (eg a Plug In for Windows Media Player that will do the above, AND Sync file changes between the two devices) please let me know!
Please do email Sony Ericsson requesting WMA support, either in the phone (unlikely) or in the disc2phone software (easy for them to do).
Best regards, and I hope you find the above useful.

You see, when I transfer songs into my computer through CD, I make sure Windows Media encodes to MP3, so I don't have this problem.
But cheers for the tip! |

My primary storage is all in lossless WMA - so transcoding like this involves only one lossy compression. If you need to resample from MP3 to a lower bit rate you have double degradation. My PC is also the source for my HiFi - thus I want the highest quality possible from my primary source material (ie lossless). Simon |

Good reasons as to why you keep a WMA music catologue.
My PC is my main entertainment centre (runs XP MCE 2005) so MP3 is just fine | |
