@dgilmartin: from what happened to me, I see the following indicators for my Sony 1GB MMS (let me use your phone to show you my symptoms):

RED- The sides are poorly sealed, as in a bit messy compared to what SONY would do to their products- neat and nice (SONY finishing).

GREEN- The circle (if you carefully notice on your cards) is harder to notice and it does not reflect light. I tried on my original 64mb k750i phone and it reflected a perfect round circle of light, and if you move it around a bit, you'll notice nothin else gets reflected but that circle.

BLUE- I notice my 1GB MMS has messy patterns on the golden reading part. The original one has a VERY smooth 'SONY finishing' surface.

NOT IN PICTURE- The front side the memory card is make up of a very thin, cheap feeling (well, it is cheap) plastic. Guess what, it started to break after 1 to 2 weeks after very little memory stick discarding/ inserting activity with my phone.

I must admit though that China did a good job (copying). We wouldn't be able to spot them unless we look very carefully.

does the fake thingy have sumthing to do with the memory capacity? i mean, my sandisk 256 can only handle 237mb of total memory..

Like computer drives they use a bit of capacity to run anyway.

The 1gb pro duo that I bought seems to be fake too. Thought only mmc/sd fakes were available. Got the duo for a good price but hope now that its going to last long.

It can only hold 1GB of memory and I cant acces the stick from the computer only from the phone.

get a better source... you don't want things dying when you need it right? like when you need to make a call thing?.. don't want your memory card dying on you when you need to save on it.

I am a consultant to Sandisk and this is what i have been informed.

"SanDisk recently broke one major ring of counterfeit products in China
being sold on eBay. Today we believe up to 50% of products sold in the
"used" market to be counterfeit. We recommend only buying products from
authorized dealers. In Asia all products have a hologram on the retail
package and products that are bought without packaging or without a
hologram are suspect."

I bought my 1GB memory stick pro duo from ebay last june. I droped my phone a distance of about 6 inches last night and the phone stopped working.

I turned out that the memory stick casing split open and stoped working. The only way to get my phone to work was to remove the memory stick!
