Why is the update service so complicated? |

Why can't they just give us a file to download, connect the phone with the pc, run the file, and thank you very much, your phone is updated.
My problems comes down to the point where i have to disconnect the phone from the usb cable, wait 20 seconds, press "C" and put it back on.
here:
I have tried it 2 ways.
1. Pressing "C", keep it pressed. Plug the phone on the usb cable, and wait. The phone just turns on.
2. Pressing "C", plug the phone on the usb cable and stop pressing "C". The phone just turns on.
And yes, in both cases i have waited 5 minutes, not just 15 seconds.
What i'm i doing wrong here? | |

did you install the Sony Update USB driver (different to the normal usb driver)? |

No, it was not installed, but i installed it now and tried again. The exact same thing happens. |

when I did mine, I pressed the c, plugged in the cable, then let go of the c, then it picked it up.
That was on the second try but.
I had no problems after that...
Not sure why you are having troubles.... |

This is the method I used to install the 'update' drivers:
(I had already installed the standard USB drivers)
Switched off phone. Held down 'c', then plugged phone into computer. Phone switches on as normal, and computer asks for new (update) drivers. I let go of 'c', and pointed installation to the drivers folder.
Now I just hold down c until the phone has powered up. Then I ran the update, and it worked without having to unplug the phone again.
As far as I know, you can't tell if the phone has started in 'normal' or 'update' mode. |

Packages:
1. SE K750i Pc suite
2. SE Update service software (seus_setup119.exe)
3. SE K750i USB drivers
4. SE K750i Update Service USB drivers
Update procedure:
1. Go to SE website, click 100 clicks to get to the update service
2. Go through 100 steps to finally start the update procedure
3. Remove cable and wait 15 seconds
4. Keep "C" pressed and plug the cable
5. Wait 15 seconds and hopefully the update will start.
You want my suggestion?
1 package (SE K750i Pc suite), all of the above packages included, and when the package is finally installed, a button saying "CLICK HERE TO UPDATE YOUR DAMN PHONE"
Now, from these 2 options, which one do you think is easier?
What troubles me the most though, is, how much trouble these people go into, to make phones that are easy for everyone to use, and yet, they can't create an easy to use update service.

mate, updating your phone's firmware is not a simple matter. It is fraught with the danger of turning your phone into a paperweight.
If at any stage it stuff's up, you are left with a dead phone that you will expect SE to be responsible for.
For that reason, they make sure that NOTHING can happen to your phone until all bases are covered.
This is why the process is complicated. To PROTECT you.
Seriously, I followed every instruction to the letter. My phone is updated, and more importantly, it still works.
I for one am grateful that SE even attempt to offer this service, given the amount of idiots out there liable to get it completely arse about and stuff their phones up and blame SE (I'm not talking about you mate, but believe me the idiots are out there. Try doing tech support for a few years) |

I have done tech support. I know that the less options you give to the end user, the less chances he has of screwing up. Thats why i said, a single button, saying "Click here to update your phone".
When you think about it, it all comes down to a single package, which is transfered to the phone, and then executed and installed.
SE could just give us the package, and have a button in their pc suite which would say, "Click here to browse for update package" and a button "Update"
I don't get it? Whats so risky about that? Why go through the website? Why even use java? Why do i have to download and install 4 different software/drivers to perform an update?
Anyway, i guess the programmers at SE are a bunch of old guys running out of ideas. When young people are hired, all these will change 
btw, any ideas why i'm having this problem? |

The first thing I'd say, is that in the last day I've noticed the SE website having some time out's so they may be experiencing overload or technical problems. Trying again in a day or two may be all you need 
That aside, If it was me, I'd try clearing my cache, uninstalling the drivers, reboot my computer, reinstall drivers, reconnect to SEUS, and try again making absolutely sure I was doing exactly what is suggested. As I said the first time I tried it it didn't pick up. I didn't count out 20 seconds before replugging the phone, just waited for a few seconds after the screen went black. I put it down to that. The second time I tried it worked flawlessly.
If you are still having troubles, try it on another PC, or try installing the SE Java runtime. Also make sure you have a good usb connection, maybe even try another port (then reinstall drivers, I have found sometimes drivers re-detect if you change the usb port - if that happens it may drop the update driver).
Ultimately, if you try everything you can (including trying on a completely different computer, and trying in several days to allow for SEUS server vagaries), it may come down to a hardware fault with either the phone, or the cable.
I do agree the process could be simpler, but you also have to keep in mind that SE are trying to keep as much control over the process as possible. It's not what you or I are likely to do that's so bad, since we have done tech support we are obviously capable of following instructions properly and wouldn't cause ourselves problems if we had the software on our computer.
But for example, one guy in this forum claimed in all seriousness that it was possible to flash a K700 into a K750!! On a different note, someone faxed me a photocopy of a floppy disk when I asked them to send me a copy of their backup! These are the sort of nongs I would be worried about if I programmed for SEUS! If SE don't have rigid control it turns into a turkey shoot. I don't blame them myself. I wouldn't like to see SE take a cavalier approach to firmware updates. By making the process complicated, those unwilling to follow even simple steps (if numerous) will give up, leaving only those serious about doing it to continue.
I found the whole update procedure very methodical and consistent, even if it was complicated. I felt re-assured by that. And in the end, by following the steps, I achieved the result. | |
