K608i to V600i - is it possible? |

Now that the K608i is out on Three, is it possible to flash this handset with the Vodafone V600i SW? I know that it is an unusual request, but as I am a happy Vodafone customer, unless this is possible the Vodafone live! portal won't be available in this device, as the K608i will not be recognised by the portal as a live! handset.
Is the V600i SW available from any of the usual flashing sites?
Any help will be highly appreciated.

The simple answer would be NO. I've not heard about anyone changing their unbranded handset to branded handset.

Well... it's more like changing the branding from one operator to another, as I would have thought that the K608 from Three will also have Three's customisation on it!
So, the question is... is the Vodafone SW for the V600i available from the flashing sites?

Why dont you unbranded the Three K608i to a normal K600i?

No, you can't flash it with Vodafones firmware. If you instead unlock it and flash it with K600 firmware, then the Vodafone live portal will accept the phone.
As I see it, the only feature you won't be able to use is printed postcards (it's built into the Vodafone firmware). |

Did you buy the K608? And why not buy V600. Usually debranding services are all you can get. Most people prefer to get rid of branding and seeing you're one of the few that actually want it, that means your chance of finding a service offering the voda firmware are slim. |

The people here at esato and other forums "hate" branding - correct! But you should be aware that the very huge majority of people who buy phones don't care or don't even know about branding... they just buy the phone. They never spend time here - or elsewhere - in the hunt for a different icon in their phones desktop. They just use their phone - that's it!
The author of this thread probably bought the Three version for some financial reason, but wants to use it with Vodafone. Since it's locked to Three he can't connect to the live portal at Vodafone since that portal only supports V600 and K600. I don't think this guy cares very much about the branding matter, he just want the phone to work "for him"... and save some money while buying it (from the wrong operator in his case).
So, all you people here who talk down on Vodafone and other branding - you're so few compared to the people who don't care or even know about different branding! "We" care because we are phone/gadget nerds - "they" are normal people who don't give a rat about the color of an icon! |

Thanks everyone for their comments
I have not (yet) bought a K608i on Three. The reason why I am planning to buy this device on Three is because the aesthetics of this device are far nicer than the V600i.
I would like to be able to use the Vodafone live! portal as there are some sections like the Cinema trailers or the ITN video news which I actually like and use - The Vodafone live! portal uses the User Agent Header to identify the device, which means that unless it is a Vodafone live! device, the live! content will not be rendered.
Can anybody confirm that the K600i shows live! content and that the video sections in live! work for this device? - Perhaps the K600i has also been included in the list of live! devices supported by the live! portal?
A shame though, that unless I get hold of Voda firmware, I won't be able to use Vodafone live! postcards, as mentioned above.
Now that the MP3 ringtone issue has gone away in the Voda firmware, and the Voda icons look better than they used to do in the T610/K700, I personally don't have much of an issue with Vodafone's customisation of SE phones. Before everybody jumps on my back about this, let me just say that this is my personal opinion. |
