I also had the Encryption Error problem. I, however, had to do a full flash from davinci (errors with a firmware upgrade), but for me it wasn't working before that. But checking Settings/Connectivity/Internet Settings/Security/Trusted Cert., I didn't have any. So I tracked down the ones I think I needed. I got them from http://www.thawte.com/roots/, and sent ThawtePremiumServerCA.cer and ThawteServerCA.cer over to the K750i over bluetooth. They were recognized as certificates and placed in the appropriate area. And then it worked. I did some testing, and it seems like you need both certificates to get it to work. Also, you need to send them to the phone, you can't just place them on the Memory Stick, they won't get recognized as certificates.

Yeah, gmail worked just fine'n'dandy until i flashed R1L-->R1N. Now "Encrption error, TSL/SSL unknown certificate authority".

Maybe IŽll try that certificate thing later

I can receive Gmail but I can't send.

I have a Sony Ericsson D750i and it's firmware is R1N035 and my provider is T-Mobile UK.

Connect Using: T-Mobile GPRS
Incoming Server: pop.gmail.com
Incoming Port: 995
Encryption: TLS/SSL
Outgoing Server: smtp.gmail.com

With outgoing port set to 465 this happens;
"Finding server" for about 5 seconds then...
"Server found" for about 1 second then...
"Sending email" for about 1 second then...
"Encryption error, TLS/SSL unknown certificate authority"

With outgoing port set to 587 this happens;
"Finding server" for about 5 seconds then...
"Server found" for about 1 second then...
"Sending email" forever - it just seems to stall here until you press 'Cancel'.

I think 587 is for SSL, while 465 is for TSL - anyway, neither of them work.

I've tried using a few different data account and they don't seem to make any difference to the sending Gmail problem.

I've also tried upgrading the firmware from a version before R1N035 but this didn't make any difference either.

I have enabled POP access on Gmail. Interestingly I still got the "wrong mailbox or password" error for a few hours after I enabled POP in Gmail - so this Gmail setting obviously takes some time to take effect - don't expect it to take effect immediately as implied.

Someone suggested it might be a certificate problem. The following certificates are listed under Settings/Connectivity/Internet settings/Security/Trusted cert.
Verisign
VeriSign WTLS
Baltimore WTLS
Entrust WTLS
Verisign
Baltimore
Entrust.net Root
GlobalSign
Thawte
Sony Ericsson E2E
VeriSign Class 3

I can't use the Sony Ericsson E-mail Configurator as Gmail is not listed as an "Incoming E-mail Server""

Someone else suggested it might be my operator blocking all outgoing ports except their own smtp ports (to reduce SPAM). This seems the most likely root cause but I dread to think how difficiult it would be to (a) find someone at T-Mobile that understands the problem, and (b) get them to do something about it.

If the blocking of port numbers is the source of the problem then maybe if enough of us made enough noise we could get the operators to open the port up.

If anyone has some more information about this problem or another suggestion for me to try to fix then I would be very very grateful.

my theory is that operators are blocking only PAY&GO or pre pay mobile only... I have tried a contract O2 K750i and it worked both on R1L002 and R1N035...with you guessed gmail... I upgraded it last nite for a mate and all was working fine... [addsig]

Hi, phone is fine, just need correct outgoing smtp details from your provider. For O2
smtp.o2.co.uk
port 25
No encryption

Had the same error, did some research, sorted. Most providers have automated setup for other email providers (like their own), get the setting and check the outgoing details, add that to you Gmail settings.
Hope it helps.

Ok, definetly Certificate problem, just fixed it.
Downloaded the Thawte zip file from their site, address is up somewhere in this threat. Check your phone ( mine is W800i) certificates, mine had already had the ThawteServerCA, then I unziped the file and found the"ThawtePremiumServerCA" send it to phone by bluetooth, it regonized it, and installed it.

Then set up the gmail as it was stated, boom it worked.

For the guys, u do not wanna go that way, here is previous solution. I was using Tmobiles server to reach to my Gmail. Just set up your email in the Mytmobile page, and then using the settings wizzard of SE ( Not GPRS or Picture Messaging, choose e-mail) , send your "email" settings to ur phone. ( u will chose , US, Tmobile, ur number)

Here is the link that I found,
http://home.earthlink.net/~dasilva333/gmail%20settings.JPG

actually I spent 20 mins searching howard forums and other thats how I found it. Tried and boom, this one works too.

I hope this helps, both of them are working for me. I just made a test.
Good night.
