Has anybody tried buying a java game, saving it onto your memory card then tried to get that java game off the card onto the PC. Well I tried and in the memory card folder I just find a load of .sest files, instead of the actual .jar file. There was maybe three of those files per game so I deleted a game off my phone, then moved those .sest files for that game onto my PC. I then sent the largest of the three files over to the phone and it gave me an instal file on the phone, I installed it and the game ran fine. However, i'm assuming all this business is some form of copy protection so i'm assuming that .sest instal file is 'programmed' to only work with my phone now. Which makes this whole excercise pointless, really I just want to find a way to not lose two games I bought when I change phone. So I need someone to put that .sest file on their phone and see if it installs, i'm pretty sure it won't but worth a try. Does anyone have any other suggestions as to how I can get the java games from the card to the PC?.
Download the file from here:-

Please bear in mind the worst message you will get is invalid application, you CANNOT get any virus's with the K750i.

@ cloysterpete5,
I tried out ur file......it is a jar file renamed to .sest, so that the name noe reads Tetris_3[1].jar.sest. If you directly send it yo ur mob, it doesn't recognize the source. However, once u rename the extension to jar, it should ideally work on ur mob. On my handset however (SonyEric K750i) it shows an invalid app error
Hope i was of any help |

I think I proved my point . That sest file gives me an instal option when I send it to my phone, then I can instal the game just fine.
I renamed the sest file to .jar to start with and got the invalid application message, if you got that message too (without renaming) then I guess it's forever linked with the phone that the game was first played on.
Unless.....there are another load of games files stored in another folder of the memory stick, maybe they need to be on your card as well?. Might have to try that.

I think the .sest needs some other file to work with........As u might hav remembered, i had told u that when i sent the sest to my cell, it was sored in the "others" folder. Now while i was checking out the folder, i saw an install option too, but when i selected it, it says "Operation Failed"
So check for some more associated files that work with the .sest file, and may be u can succeed...

There are bound to be associated files in another folder, possibly the one containing system files. I've had this experience with my 6600, while moving games between memory cards. There's a Symbian app called MakeSis which circumvents the problem, doubt if there's a .jar version available though...

I had the .sest file working as an instal file while those associated files were still on my card. To explain a bit better the card was in my card reader while I tested the file so the only thing to do with that game on my phone was the .sest file, which still worked. But I think for it to work with anyone else's phone I would need to copy those associated files from the memory card, even then it might not work. |
