cant access wap on unlocked NEC |

HI.
I was given an NEC E616V then i had it unlocked. Took my Voda sim from old phone (t630) and placed it in my NEC.
No prob. The Vodafone signal was perfect.
But i cant access any 3g services as the best i get is 2.5. Ive called Voda,told them what i telling u, and they cant seem to understand why im not getting any 3g or wap services as the area im living in is covered.
Ive allso changed my aps address to wap.vodafone.co.uk and i do get the two bars on top of the screen..then as i try to connect to ,say, google.com, they change to two opposite facing arrows icon ..but then it tells me that the connection was lost...
so what gives?
(by the way,this phone's battery life is crap..)

even when you unlock a three phone, you cannot access anything outside (as its know) 3's garden wall

Suffuce it to say,this phone is"anti-social"! You cant download any games and ringtunes from the comp. You have to dload from wap.
And the battery life is about 2hours. Oh it seems fully charged but one phone call or video played, and all of a sudden its about half-dead..
Needless to say,this phone is going to be sold...
