Memory Stick Duo |

Hi,
I just got a 512MB Sony Memory Stick Duo for my K750i and formatted it on the fone before connecting it to my laptop via the usb connection. Using this method I can see the Memory Stick within windows and add files in to the appropriate folders.
When removing this Memory stick from the fone and using the duo adaptor to plug directly in to my laptops card reader windows displays a message saying the card has not been formatted when I click on the icon in my computer.
I have formatted the card in the fone via the fones menus, also via windows while plugged in using the USB cable. If I try to format using the adaptor and card reader windows will only allow me to select the size as 256MB (was less than this I think ~238MB as per normal with mem sticks).
Has anyone else had this problem with mem sticks formatted on the k750i and is there a fix or work around?
Thanks |

Update........
Tried the 64MB that came with the phone and it seems to work fine with the card reader and adaptor but this came pre-formatted so I haven't done anything to it.
I updated the drivers for the reader as well but didnt think this would help as the 512MB stick works fine with windows if I format in windows just not after a phone format. |

You have to format it in the PC in FAT mode, NOT FAT32. Remove the card and reinsert it into the phone and you are ready to go!

How do you change the way you format it?

When you are in windows explorer, right click the MS Duo Drive and click format. There is a dropdown on the menu that pops up, in the photo it is shown as NTFS, scroll down and change it to FAT. Then format the drive.
Hope this helps.

Do not try to format Memory Stick media using the standard Windows format tool (found in the "My Computer" menu).
the reason why you cannot read is because your card reader doe snot supports magicgate devices.
follow the formatting directions for the device with which you are using Memory Stick media |

What are you on about, this works perfectly, as long as you use the FAT file system. The card reader is the phone, can you explain a little more clearly.
Cheers

Right think I sorted it
I formatted in the phone using FAT format, the size was 938MB for my 512MB card but ive seen other posts that say they have also have this issue so I'm not too concerned.
Heres what I did if ur gettin the same problem.
1. Format the msduo in the phone to get all the folders the phone requires created on the stick (do this through the phone menus not in windows)
2. connect the phone to a PC via USB
3. copy the entire contents of the stick to a folder on your computer
4. Format the msduo via windows format using the FAT format
5. drag/drop the contents of the folder you saved on your PC after formatting in the phone so you have the correct files and folders present
Thanks for all your help! |
